I am fascinated by watches since childhood, so I must ask this:
Is there a Pakistani watch manufacturing company? I mean, most Indians that I know wear Indian made watches, typically 'Titan'.
So similarly what wrist watch is worn by the typical middle to upper middle class Pakistani? :pakistan:

That is too broad a question... Depends on the person, are they more into formal stuff or sporty/outdoor or glam designer orientated.

I know for a fact that the U-Boat "Flight Deck" is very popular with the "IT" crowd in Lahore.

Actually this raises a good point... Any entrepreneur want to start a watch company in Pakistan ;)

Pakistan does not have a watch manufacturer but a lot of talented people who have dabbled in watch making albeit copies only.

We have vast watch markets in our cities where originals and fakes can be bought.

Alternatively in all upper-middle class and upper class areas, we have watch shops by the likes of Tag Heuer and others who cater to the rich.

It would be a good oppurtunity to start our own watch manufacturer but government policies are detrimental to any local start ups.

Lack of funding, encouragement and government initiatives have dampened entrepreunership.

You are absolutely right about the potential of starting a watch company. You will be surprised how many of the famous Swiss names use movements and parts made in China. So much so that the Swiss government has rules that specify when a watch can state 'Swiss Made' on the dial.
You guys just need a good marketing budget and some unique Pakistani dial designs. Everything else should be outsourced to Chinese manufacturers. I was amazed to find out that even 'Titan' in India is doing this with one of their high end lines.(the automatic movement watches).
I'm sure even as I am writing this, somebody in Pakistan is submitting his watch manufacturing project report to the bank:-)

when Chinese watches are available for Rs. 50 who will buy other watches ;)
