A worthy Video about F-35 and people who says that It is not as good as they say it is ..

. .
F-35 is not necessarily a bad plane—however, it is years late, grotesquely over budget nor is the aircraft likely to ever deliver what its designers originally promised. The F-35 is a case of massive over ambition to develop one base airframe that can be adapted to replace half-dozen specialized jets. The result is an expensive jack-of-all-trades, but a master of none.

There is nothing wrong with being a 'jack of all trades and master of none' if you consistently raise the bars of all those trades. And if you raise those bars high enough, opinions like those in the video are meaningless.

All the great fighters in the world were 'jack of all trades'.

- F-4 served the USAF, USN, and USMC in every mission from recon to bomber
- F-15 started out as air superiority and ended up carrying just as much bombs as the WW B-17
- F-16 serves internationally in air defense and fighter-bomber missions

Am sure members from other countries can bring up their 'jack of all trades master of none' great fighters.

Can we please put this criticism to rest in light of history?

Developing a new class of fighter aircraft, is an exceedingly challenging endeavor for any country and/or company to undertake, and development process might completely contradict original scheduling due to uncertain factors.

In the case of F-35 program, BAD PRESS was the primary issue.

Do you see Chinese sources berating J-20 program?
Do you see Russian sources berating Su-57 program?
Do you see French sources berating Rafale program?

It is actually surprising to notice how much publicity was accorded to F-35 program through the years, and why Pentagon allowed this to happen.

--- --- ---

F-35 might give the impression of being a jack-of-all-trades in theory but reality is different.

F-35 represent a family of jets, each design have combat-related specializations of its own.

At a broader level:-

1. F-35 variants feature world's most advanced and comprehensive EO/IR suite which offer 360 degree spherical coverage of all types of threats, to facilitate WVR engagement possibilities in ways not possible otherwise, and also make it possible for the pilot to try to intercept different types of missiles from BVR. China is trying its best to equip J-20 with a similar suite but progress is unclear at this stage.

2. F-35 variants are pushing the envelope with helmet-driven target acquisition possibilities.

3. F-35 program on the whole, is pushing the envelope in the aspect of integrated systems (a crucial 5th generation metric).

4. F-35 program on the whole, is pushing the envelope in the domain of VLO sciences with new types of signature-masking experiments on relevant airframes. This matter is a topic in itself.

F-35 is pushing the 'multi-role' envelope to new heights with VLO characteristics in the picture - a specialization in its own right.

A 'toy' that your Pakistan would love to have. But think about it for a moment, if there are customers or customer wannabe, then it is not a toy. You got people in your government's leadership who are far wiser than you are and they wish Pakistan is an F-35 customer. Right now, Pakistan and India are military peers. This 'toy' would give either one advantage over the other. Make no mistake, if the US offers India the F-35, your Pakistan would be screaming bloody murder to high heavens.

Toy?

like i said you making imaginary enemies like with Russia.. promoting poland buy planes.

Pakistan would love not have a single toy.. this is the current PM Imran doctrine.. he clearly stated that in his interview with RT.....we are forced to buy cos we have an idiot of neighbor called india whom US want to prop as a counter balance to China..

China which you to be "imagining" as your enemy simply cos you fear its economic and political rise.

Show me a single country that wishes its potential adversary to be on the same level as itself.

Exactly my opinion on multirole fighters. I never understand why people are critical of multirole fighter planes that were designed to perform multiple roles and not over-specialize in one specific role.

Specialized one-trick ponies like the A-10 are great, but jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none aircraft like the F-16 or F-35 are greater because they're flexible in their tasks, unlike something like a dedicated interceptor which fills in a kinda-niche role.

F-35s are good planes, they ain't A-10s but the entire point was for them to replace the F-16 and form the new backbone of America's fighter fleet. I also never understand the criticism of the aircraft being supposedly "un-maneuverable" or "less-agile", something along those lines.

They are critical because they are ignorant, inexperience, and do not care about both. They have no interest in the subject in an intellectual capacity, only on how emotionally they can criticize US. It is ultimately about US and not about the aircraft itself. Even in WW II we put bombs on fighters like the P-51 over Europe and the P-40 over China. So history actually supports the idea of 'jack of all trades' platforms.

The F-35 is a special target for their ignorance based ire because the F-35 is so far ahead of the pack that the jet must be criticized no matter the facts.

. .
I mean it’s worth it if you use it.
If you just let 2000+ f35s sit and have to maintain them idk.

Operations and maintenance is projected to be $1 trillion in 2070 dollars.

If $1 trillion can scare China and Russia then its worth it?

.
The only opinions that matters are the from the ones who lost to it. :enjoy:

how would F-22 perform against F-35 ? in a Dog fight ..? from what i understand that F-22 will beat it cause it was design to win Air to Air battles, but would love to hear your opinion on it.

ha... just another toy to waste on imaginary enemies ... things we dont really need.

Dude, F-35 was build as successor to F-16/F-15/F-18 and some parts of F-22 , it will have its short coming but will be over come , look at the R&D LM put in this project ? It will be a great project just like F-16 . So don't insult it by calling it a toy , You know what is toy ? Iranian Qaher XYZ ..
