Is Indian Economy is Really better than Pakistan's?

Indian economy is worth 2100 Billion USD

Pakistani economy is worth 300 Billion USD.

Indian Population in 1300 Million.
Pakistani population is 200 Million.

So Pakistani economy is 7 times smaller than India's.
But for a 6.8 times smaller population.

If we divide Indian GDP of 2100 Billion on population of 1300 million. It's 1615 dollars per capita.

If we divide Pakistani GDP of 300 Billion on population of 200 million. It's 1500 Dollars per person.

Per capita , Indian economy is only 1.076 times bigger than Pakistan.

Same is the situation of external debts. Until just two Yeats ago we owed far less money to freeing lenders per capita than India. But thanks to astronomical borrowing by current government our external debt stand at 75 billion USD.
India's external debt stands at 485 billion USD.
That's 375 USD Per Pakistani and 373 USD per Indian. Or every Pakistani owes 2 Dollars more to foreign lenders than every Indian.

There are two ways to look at it. No, India isn't that far ahead of Pakistan as Indians would have you believe. Purely looking at things from per capita perspective, when they're ahead, they're ahead only by 5-10%. However, there are things that Pakistan is better in. Poverty, access to proper sanitation come to the top of my head, where Pakistan does much better.

But, the other way to look at it is that Pakistan was ahead by 40% in 1990, and it shouldn't have come to this point. But CPEC might change things quite dramatically, more so than anyone is imagining. The number of projects under construction via CPEC is truly enormous compared to what we've seen in the past.

wrong info in first line itself.
Indian economy is somewhere around 2470 billion dollars.

That doesn't really have much impact on the overall conclusion from the post though.

1) Because China has an economy several times India's size so they are undisputed champions. However, the fact that India has an economy that is even more disproportionately bigger than Pakistan's means nothing.

2) Because China is leading in several areas of defence spending and procurement over India so it is inevitable that India has no military counter to China. However, the fact that India leads Pakistan in all those parameters by a wider margin means nothing - Pakistan still has parity.

3) Because of China's engagement with the world in trade and investment, the world is only interested in China and India does not count diplomatically. However, the fact that India's engagement with the rest of the world in trade and investment is proportionately much higher than Pakistan's means nothing - they are still as relevant as India to the rest of the world.

Do you not understand the difference between per capita and absolute figures? Can you check Pakistan's, China's and India's population and then adjust the numbers per capita? I mean for goodness sakes, the OP mentioned "per capita" or a similar term almost a dozen times and that fact still didn't get through your thick head?

.....you can't reason with crazy, and you can't argue with stupid.

He is referring to per Capita which is one of the very important measure of economic progress ... If you don't understand something then dont jump into it ...

Yes I believe they are better economically, how? Pakistanis listen to me carefully.

India tax to GDP 17% vs 12% for Pakistan.

India exports $275b vs $22b. 13x difference :-)Pakistan exports are same as 10 years ago while India have surged ahead, thanks to terrorism?

Better governance mean they hardly have any load shedding. Good image mean they receive more foreign investment.

Then why in terms of poverty both countries are about same level? Because 9 million overseas Pakistanis vs 30m for India. Which mean poor Pakistanis on average are more dependent on remittances then poor Indians.

Gap could have been grown much further if China didn't came to rescue Pakistan with CPEC.

Till 90's Pakistan was ahead because of India own incompetence, it's not like Pakistan ever got serious about economic development before CPEC.

No I understand nothing. You have opened my eyes to my own ignorance and I am in eternal debt of gratitude to you as a result. If you look at my posts in the relevant threads about economics you will understand that I spend time and effort to rid this forum of the sheer ignorance about economics that is all-pervasive here. However, you can simply come along and give your two bits that can be written on the back of an envelope and trump all of that. Another gem of Pakistani logic.

Have a good day.

As I said. All the time and effort I have spent in life in understanding and explaining economics means nothing. Because you can simply come along and claim I don't know anything, and then expect to engage me in a discussion. Another gem of Pakistani logic.

Have a good day.

What makes you think you know better than IMF?

India has a better economy than ours. They collect more tax and give relief to their farmers.
Subsidy based Farming is also going on in my Country of Residence UK and it didn't work very well. Most of UK farms only grow grass for sheep now and most of food items are imported from Europe.

What makes you think you know better than IMF?

I wasn;t on about GDP, i was on about GDP per capita or GDP divide by population.

And you forgot India's 381 Billion of Imports. Thats a trade deficit of 106 Billion, compared to about 20 Billion Trade deficit of Pakistan.

India is ahead of Pakistan in every field. Medical, IT, tourism industry, car companies, oil companies, coal power etc
India has a better economy than ours. They collect more tax and give relief to their farmers.

Pakistan is way behind India in revenue collection which mean less development. Pakistan not only need to increase GDP at rapid pace but also tax revenues to catch up with India.

First, it was for another member, one who came with misguided numbers.

Now let me respond to you, You need GDP numbers first to be divided by the country's inhabitants.
Otherwise how is it possible to get the end results:

On per capita Pakistan is losing the battle:

Yes India is 138th and Pakistan 139th?
Thats not much different from what i calculated? Point being there isn't such a massive difference as Indians portray.
