I know that we have a few computer guys on the forum, Please can you tell me is CCNA a good thing as a career move for someone who like networking
how is the market in USA, UK and UAE for getting a job with the above qualification.

.
Its good career in US, don't know about UAE. But after CCNA do CCIE (network designing ,CCIE qualified person is hard to find). Its awsome. CISCO San Jose will pick the guy right away and offer salary of over 120. But only CCNA is just kinda hooking up with job 25/hr average in US.

.
Well I have seen lot of guys just getting interested in CCNA just because they think networking means cisco, but networking is more then Cisco. CCNA is a good starting point to get in to networking but it is good if person has a goal in mind, like he/she wants to be in network support only or want to move to network design. Otherwise I have seen people getting confused after some time that what is next.

CCNA/P are a good career starters. However hirings are not done merely on certifications anymore.

In UAE, there's a trend of becoming a Networking and Security specialist. People usually do both sort of certifications.

Although just to start off these days you need a tons of qualifications:

1. A BSc (minimum) in Computer Science (or related)
2. CCNA/P
3. CISM/CISSP

Somewhere along the 1st 5 years of your career, you should have completed all these three bear minimum requirements.

.
From a cert. standpoint, add PMP to the above. Individuals with such qualifications can land pretty good consulting jobs.

.
Thing about CISM/CISSP/CISA/PMP, they all have a 5 year experience requirement in their said areas of profession.

So you can't use them as a career starter, but they are good once you've started off.

.
again the point here is what is your GOAL my point is CCNA is a good starting point for a career is networking. But then it becomes that what you want to become a network administrator/ security expert/ solution consultant, or want to be seen some day as CIO. Every certification helps you in some specific area. And the time is for convergent networks so voice networking can be ignored all together.

Now I am really confused , so CCNA is a good entry level networking thing ,
but you guys said CCIE is very good now which one :undecided:
CCIE Routing and Switching
CCIE Security
CCIE Voice
CCIE Service Provider
CCIE RS Executive Program

CCIE is a very tough exam and as well as costly. It is not only about theory but a lot of practical experience. If the person is starting a career the CCNA is a good starting point, and then as I mentioned earlier it depends on how exactly the person want to have a career growth path.

CCIE is hot. But very tough... AND expensive to achieve.

And the progression involves going through CCNA/P.

While we're on the subject, I just got my CISM result. Cleared it off, with flying colors! I passed out a CISA before.

I haven't bothered with CCNA wagera. Since I feel I already know most of that stuff, but I'm thinking of doing it just for the credentials. I'm thinking of going for a PMP now. I don't want to become a networking engineer, but an Information Security manager then slowly progress towards an IS Auditor.

I would advise that you look at which career path has a lot more money involved in it.

First congratulations. I am saying the same point you need to have a clear cut path which you want to traverse or else after some time normally people get confused that what next...

May be you have not bothered about CCNA but still I feel it is a good thing to do esp as fresher who is trying to build the career in networking adn then after some exp he/she can decide what is the best career path that suit himself/herself.

Better than MCSE

In what terms? MCSE is a Microsoft certification which gives you a career in system administration whereas CCNA opens career path in network administration. both lines are different. Can you please elaborate more rather then these one liners.

Since the thread is about CCNA and CCNP are good career move, I would say getting the certifications doesn't matter now a days. Why ??? Because anyone can get them through brain dumps available on net. The need is for knowledge. Since I have done CCNA I would say it is easy to do. It is simple, especially if you have a base in computers. Will it get you a good job ??? No. CCNP should be followed.

CCIE, well depends on your exposure to cisco products physically. Not east to crack it's lab exam and most take 2-3 attempts to clear it. The written is easy though, but you must have been experienced on cisco products and propietary protocols for clearing it. Starting salary around $50,000 for complete freshers.
