I think attraction is required to get things started, at the beginning. You need some common ground to work up your relation, and attraction provides an incentive to do that. As time passes, you will probably find other reasons and pure attraction won't be the reason you stay together.

Marriage is as cultural as its primal. The term attraction is as important as the struggles of the spider crawling out of the loo. Irrelevant.

Appreciation falls under what I clumsily categorised as "personality". I guess what I mean is the emotional side of a relationship holds great value - it's a definite deal breaker, but it's something that can be worked on. You can "learn" to change your behaviour or to be more accepting of anothers behaviour, but that pure animal attraction that makes your heart beat the moment you see someone - that can't be "built up".

I don't want you to think there is a definite priority of physical attraction over everything else but it is incredibly important - something sometimes people overlook.
