This is what is called in the medical and financial professions a “Stress Test”. Domestic opponents of the government are exposing their cards and showing the limits of their influence. The government gets a chance to address them early in its tenure and can blame the delay in results at this point on the lingering effects of the past governments. Had this been done at the mid point or last year of the PTI tenure, in the event of a lack of results, then it would have been a whole different story.
the great threat was losing the governments image in the international media and world opinion, that could hurt PTI’s ability to attract FDI and build up the economy.
This march actually strengthen the PTI because it shows that it allows the opposition to stage massive protests openly and freely. The censorship article in the guardian was a larger threat then this dharna. The government needs to find a balance that allows freer media but sued through the courts any liable comments made, so it plays by the rules that will reform how politics are played, and not hurt the chances of attracting FDI.
