Iranian weightlifter and Olympic Champion Sohrab Moradi has collected three gold medals in men’s 96kg at 2018 World Weightlifting, breaking the longest standing world records.
The 29-year-old Iranian athlete broke the world record in snatch by lifting 176kg in his first attempt.
In clean and jerk, Moradi conquered 223kg in his first attempt and secured his gold medal, breaking the world’s record. Then he lifted 230kg for the second attempt. He chose 237kg for the third round but failed to break his own record again.

The young athlete also broke the total of snatch and clean and jerk records during the competition, earning 3 gold medals in total in a single day.

The 2018 World Weightlifting Championships kicked off on November 1 in Ashgabat and it will wrap up on November 10. Some 600 athletes from 88 countries are participating in the event.

Moradi is the best weightlifter on the planet today, he broke all the 94kg records and now he has the full set of 96kg records in his first competition since the new weight classes were introduced!

That is his second World Championship Gold Medal (he also won Gold at Rio 2016).

However, the article has so many mistakes...

1) "longest standing world records" - the IWF recently changed all the weightlifting weight classes, Moradi used to compete at 94kg and he broke the snatch world record last year in 94kg, that record was the longest standing world record in weightlifting at the time, but now the 94kg division doesn't exist and this was the first competition with the new weight classes (including 96kg), so there were no world records at all (instead they use "world standards").

2) "broke the world record in snatch by lifting 176kg in his first attempt" - his first attempt was 181kg, and the world standard was 185kg, which he broke in his third lift with 186kg

3) "the young athlete" - he's 30 (the article also says he is 29, that is another mistake), that is quite old for weightlifters who usually peak in their mid 20s. but he seems to be peaking now so we can continue to expect good results from him.
