TEHRAN: The university lecturer killed in a bomb blast in the Iranian capital on Tuesday was a nuclear scientist, Tehran's prosecutor told ISNA news agency.
Massoud Ali Mohammadi was a lecturer in nuclear energy and no suspects have yet been arrested, Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi said, adding that he was climbing into his car when a nearby parked motorbike exploded.
Another Iranian news agency, Borna news, said Mohammadi was a senior nuclear scientist of the country, quoting unnamed sources.
The explosion took place near the professors home in Qeytariyeh neighbourhood, in northern Tehran, it said without giving further details.
The website of Irans state broadcaster said Mohammadi was assassinated in a terrorist act by counter-revolutionary elements, identifying him as a committed revolutionary lecturer.
It added that police and security officials had launched an investigation.
