Iran urges Chinas active involvement in Iran nuclear issue
Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani has called on China to play a more active role in resolving the nuclear dispute between Iran and the West.
Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with Li Changchun, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), here late on Tuesday.
Larijani said if certain global powers think that Iran will relinquish its right to nuclear energy for peaceful purposes under their pressure and threat, they are mistaken.
The senior lawmaker added the Western powers should change the tone of their language toward the Iranian nation.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the speaker noted that Iran and China enjoy great potential to expand all-out cooperation, particularly in industrial, energy and economic areas.
Li, for his part, reiterated that China supports Irans right to nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
Beijing is opposed to imposing sanctions on Iran beyond international regulations, Li stated, adding Tehrans nuclear issue should be resolved through negotiations.
The Chinese official also said that his country attaches great significance to its relations with the Islamic Republic.
China, a long-time energy partner of Iran, voted in favor of the fourth round of the U.S.-engineered sanctions against Tehran at the UN Security Council in June.
However, Beijing strongly condemned further measures by the U.S. and the European Union to impose additional unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic, calling for a diplomatic solution to the West's nuclear standoff with Iran.
