Iran UAV successfully fires air to air missile

In a major development in Iran's growing UAV capability a UAV was used to successfully destroy another UAV using an air to air missile.

It was a short range air to air missile in the class of the Sidewinder missile. This is just the start, naturally you start small and build from there. What's important is this is one of the first times where a UAV was used in air to air roles.

Wasnt the predator used with a stinger back in 03? It unsuccessfully shot at a MiG-25 but the missile guidance failed.

Yes, they tried it and it was not successful. Air to air role is quite a complex area for UAVs but it was an inevitability we would see these systems start to mature. These expendable suicide UAVs being given air to air capability will be a nightmare scenario for an opposing side. Unsurprisingly, Iran seems to be innovative in this arena again. This capability shown is from the regular army, one can imagine how much ahead the IRGC is.

Not just missile, Interceptor karrar drone is also equipped with machine gun, this drone was scrambled during the last war game in Persian gulf to intercept approaching American ISR planes.

Once again Iran is setting new rules in the military world.
