Iran, Turkey Reject Trump’s Move to Classify Muslim Brotherhood as Terrorist Organization

Turkey and Iran on Wednesday criticized the United States over President Donald Trump's attempt to classify the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization.

Ankara has rejected the US move, which the White House confirmed on Wednesday, saying it would promote "anti-Islamism" in the West and around the world.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, for his part, accused Washington of supporting terrorism in the region, stressing that Tehran opposed the inclusion of the "Muslim Brotherhood" on the US list of "terrorist organizations."

“The US is not in position to (..) start naming others as terror organizations and we reject by any attempt by the US in this regard,” Zarif was quoted by Reuters as saying. “The US is supporting the biggest terrorist in the region, that is Israel,” he added.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said that Trump “has consulted with his national security team and leaders in the region who share his concern and this designation is working its way through the internal process.”

According to Reuters, the inclusion of the Muslim Brotherhood on the US list allows sanctions to be imposed on those who have relations with the group, which is classified as terrorist in a number of Arab countries.

The US announcement comes three weeks after Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi's visit to Washington. According to the New York Times, which revealed information about Trump's attempt to classify the Muslim Brotherhood, the president’s initiative faces strong objections, especially within the Pentagon.

Egypt did not officially comment on the US move against the Muslim Brotherhood, but members of the parliamentary foreign relations committee welcomed it.

The Egyptian authorities have classified the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist entity since December 2013, in the wake of a booby-trapped car explosion against a security directorate in an Egypt province, which killed 16 people.

They had a larger armed group back then. They were betrayed by the Gulf countries which first encouraged them to engage against Syrians. Later the Rich Arabs kicked them out during 80s/90s.

They had/have covert armed wings..besides that.. they were accused to be the Mother of most terrorist groups like Al Qaeda...etc, at least indoctrination wise..They do have many branches throughout the world..some are peaceful, some are not..but now it is too bad that even the peaceful branches will be listed as terrorists by the US..

This is a combined effort to thwart MB's mischiefs in the ME..take a look at what is happening in Egypt's Sinai for example.. or rather a sample..they tend to plot and attempt to destroy anything that is not in full accord with their doctrine of Islam..in other words they politicise Islam..

Uncle Sam is against terrorists and states that support them..otherwise he is good for most Muslims.. you should get an idea how moderate and peaceful Muslims live in America.. two Muslim females as late as this year were elected to the highest political circles in the US..and that is a small example..
It is true that the US helps Usrael a lot.. but we should not forget Muslim interests..the fight with Usrael is a diplomatic one now..so why not take advantage of what the US has to offer Muslims, technology and economy wise..the need of the day is pragmatism..Muslims can't Fight the US to liberate Palestine..it is a recognized fact.. so what is smarter to do other than make the best out of the situation?

Thanks for the info but since all I knew about them is that it is religious political party in Egypt which was elected by the people into the govt after kicking out a dictator but then another dictator overthrew them and he seems to be doing uncle's bidding in the area.

It was on the table for years..and now there must be enough evidence against them in the US..

Thanks for the info but since all I knew about them is that it is religious political party in Egypt which was elected by the people into the govt after kicking out a dictator but then another dictator overthrew them and he seems to be doing uncle's bidding in the area.

Did you know what they have tried to do in that one year of governing Egypt?..nothing less than high treason..they wanted to give Egypt's states military and economic secrets to Iran and Turkey and prepared 10s of thousand of armed men to assault Egyptian institutions (you can see their remanent now still waging a war on Egyptians in Sinai)..one example was the assault on the prisons liberating 5000 or so of their followers and killing the guards..this is a very small example/reason why the Army had to topple them..and go for new elections supported by tens of millions of Egyptian citizens who have protested against Morsi, the MB elected president..

Iran will support any muslim group which is against western domination of muslim lands. Brotherhood happens to be a Sunni group it does not matter to Iran..The sick wahhabi ideology invented by the British to robe the oil wealth of Arabia (we see the fruits of it now by having a gangster family called Al-saud contaminating the holy lands of Islam)...Sunni Muslims of brotherhood are finally awakening to what has happened to them and that is why Al-saud gang are so scared of them and that is the simple truth and I am not religious at all!!!! ..
