Iranian Vice-President for Scientific and Research said some newly-developed radiopharmaceuticals with 20 percent enriched uranium are to be unveiled in 2012.
Nasrin Soltankhah said building radiopharmaceuticals need uranium enrichment with 20 percent purity.
"Iranian scientists are building the material and the country can produce such drugs in large scale," she said.
Providing radiopharmaceuticals required for diagnosis of the disease and curing cancer is one of the fundamental needs of the country, she said adding Iran is under propaganda pressure by imperialism which accuses Iran of seeking military purposes in its nuclear issue, but Iran has sought raising issues which can show application of nuclear technology in objective, concrete and scientific way.
Iranian scientists have already employed a radiopharmaceutical method in a bid to cure malignant liver cancer for the first time in the Middle East.
Shahid Rajaei Hospital researchers, using the method of angiography, have injected the radioactive particles into a vessel feeding tumor and destroy the cancerous tissue.
The new method lowers the risk of not only radio hepatitis, but also liver damage, the researchers clarified.
The radiopharmaceutical technique has been applied merely by some countries including Canada so far, but the researchers in the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) have succeeded in producing the drug indigenously.
