I disagree. This assessment is all speculation. Yes, there were internal challenges, but Pakistan made a blunder of a strategic level at that time. Plus Pakistan provide room for Indians to make inroads into GCC.Joining the GCC alliance against Iran in Yemen would have set of an initial sectarian bloodbath and created massive political upheaval at a time Pakistan was already vulnerable.
Iran has nothing to offer Pakistan. Iranian lobby in Pakistani politics and media is so far successful in derailing Pakistan foreign policy when it comes to regional vital interest.
Pakistanis cry about Zionist control of US, without realizing US establishment is far more nationalistic and strong and wouldn’t sacrifice it National interest for Israeli. However, Pakistani establishment is at the mercy of khomeinist itself.
