TEHRAN – According to Web of Science, Iran ranks fourth in nanotechnology in the world by publishing 8,791 articles in the field.

As per the latest updates, Iran holds the fourth place above countries such as South Korea, Germany, Japan and France.

China with the staggering number of 56,648 articles tops the list while the United States and India came in second and third places respectively.

What is nanotechnology?

Generally, nanotechnology is a field of research and innovation concerned with building 'things' - materials and devices - on the scale of nanometer - one-billionth of a meter.

As Aznano describes, nanotechnology is hailed as having the potential to increase the efficiency of energy consumption, help clean the environment, and solve major health problems. It is said to be able to massively increase manufacturing production at significantly reduced costs. Nanotech advocates claim that products of nanotechnology will be smaller, cheaper, lighter yet more functional and require less energy and fewer raw materials to manufacture.

Nanotechnology in Iran

Iran’s first researches in this field started in 2000 and with publishing 9 articles, the country achieved the rank of 52 in that year.

The national nanotechnology development headquarters was established in 2005, with the aim of making policies, assessing achievements in field of nanotechnologies, raising public awareness about nanoscience, improving quality of life and creating lucrative markets.

Recognizing the great importance of nanotechnology, Iranians have had boosted researches in the field year on year.

There are 257 companies active in this field, 33 percent of which working on nanomaterials, ISNA reported on Tuesday.

These companies have manufactured 376 different products using the nontechnology, showing that this is a field with huge economic and practical advantages.

The reports also demonstrate that these products are being exported to 47 different countries.

Iran Exporting Nanotechnology Products To 47 Countries

TEHRAN, February 12 - Iran is exporting nanotechnology products to 47 countries, said Manager of Iran’s Special Nanotechnology Headquarters Market and Industry Workgroup Reza Asadi-Far.

TEHRAN,Young Journalists Club (YJC) - 276 nanotechnology products from 145 Iranian companies are being exported to 47 countries, he said.

Iran’s nanotechnology development headquarters has established Iran-China nano-center in Suzhou City, China, through which Iran has exported some $5 million nanotech products and equipment to China.

Last September, Iran said it has considerably increased its exports of nanotechnology products.

"The volume of Iran’s nanotechnology export is eye-catching and the country is exporting its nano products to 21 countries,” Director of Industrial Promotion Group of Iran's Nanotechnology Development Department Ali Tahari said.

"After putting into operation the nano-fabric industrial production line, we were able to export this technology to South Korea and we signed a contract to export it to China as well," FNA quoted him as saying.

Iran has already announced that the country exports its nano products to countries like Australia, China, South Korea, Malaysia, Turkey, Russia and other European countries.

When it comes to producing science, Iran ranks 4th in nanotechnology worldwide, But when it come to nanotechnology products, I think we rank 13th or 14th worldwide. Now the government plans to support the researchers that can lead to products.

Iran sets up nanofiber production line in China

Tehran (ISNA) – An Iranian company managed to set up five nanofiber industrial production lines by electrospinning method in China.

Five nanofiber industrial production lines were launched in China in the wake of agreements between an Iranian and a Chinese company.

Nanofiber produced by electrospinning method is used for production of masks and car filters.

“Following the successful export of nanofiber industrial production line by electrospinning method to South Korea, a Chinese company has shown interest in buying this equipment,” the project’s Iranian plan executor said.

“We also negotiated with African companies and the export of these equipment to Indonesia is in the final phase,” he added.

Iran’s Vice-President for Science and Technology says the country is a pioneer in the field of nano-sciences, and since five years ago, serious focus has been put on the commercialisation of products in this field.

Sorena Sattari made the comments at the opening ceremony of the 12th edition of Nanotechnology Exhibition – Iran Nano 2019 – in Tehran.

“As we can see, new sciences, like nanotechnology, make a lot of changes in life, reduce our costs and create a shortcut in the field of technology.”

He said making a product is the result of private investment in research, and if a good platform is provided in this field many products will be made.

He referred to Niroo Research Institute (NRI) as a successful model for development of technology by investing in the private sector.

“The government has acted as a research mentor and has helped private companies develop start-ups and knowledge-based products,” stated Sattari.

“We can’t do well in patent and paper production until the commercialisation cycle is properly formed. Investing in research will also increase the patents and produce papers. There is a tremendous amount of human resources in the country, and the public sector should pave the way for the use of this capacity in the country by providing a platform for the private sector.”

The Iran Nano 2019 is being held at Tehran International Permanent Fairground with the participation of 139 active institutions.

The products displayed at the exhibit include achievements in fields like water and environment, energy, healthcare, automotive, construction, textile, oil and agriculture.

The exhibition embraces various sections, including science and technology parks, growth centres, laboratories, universities, research and student clubs.

One of the most important sections of the event is the Nano-match booth with about 30 ready-to-invest projects aimed at meeting industrial needs, relying on domestic technologies.

There are participants from Turkey, Ethiopia, Iraq, Afghanistan, South Africa, Azerbaijan, Indonesia and CIS countries.

In this edition, 30 new products are featured in the Innovative Design section.

Industrial and networking companies, technology development departments, specialised B2B programs, student tours, workshops, and universities and research centres’ booths are the other sections of the exhibition.

Iran ranks 4th in the world in the field of nanoscience production. The activity of 239 knowledge-based and industrial companies has resulted in production of more than 610 products and export of nano-products to more than 40 countries, according to official data.
