Tender issued for Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project
Tender issued for Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project
LahoreManaging Director SNGPL Arif Hameed has warned the industry of serious gas shortages in winter this year and announced that the gas tariff would also be revised upward to speed up exploration. He said this while speaking at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Monday.
LCCI President Irfan Qaiser Sheikh updated the MD about industrial meltdown due to gas cuts while Senior Vice President Kashif Younis Meher, Vice President Saeeda Nazar, former LCCI Presidents Mian Mohammad Ashraf, Tariq Hameed, Iftikhar Ali Malik also spoke on the occasion. The Chairman SNGPL Mian Misbahur Rehman, who is also a former President of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry also attended the function. Arif Hameed maintained that a massive gas loadshedding awaits industrial consumers this winter as the province faces a severe gas deficit at the moment. Currently, the country is facing an acute shortage, which would further jump up during upcoming December and January, he added.
He said that in the new gas policy, the gas tariff would be enhanced to facilitate gas exploration in the country. He, however, said a number of projects are well on way to introduce LPG as an alternate fuel. The SNGPL is advising the new Housing Societies to put up LPG plants as there is moratorium on supply of gas to new industrial units and residential societies, he added. Arif Hameed admitted that due to high gas tariff, the pilferage of gas has increased but the SNGPL has introduced new technology to detect theft
