Iran makes airspace off limits to PIA over payment backlog

KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) confirmed on Tuesday that Iran has shut its airspace to Pakistani air craft due to a six-month backlog in transit payments.
PIA owes Iran close to $600,000 in past payments.
PIA officials said that the ban may affect the shorter route for flights carrying returning Hajis from Saudi Arabia via Iranian airspace. A redirect to the longer and slightly expensive route over Oman would resolve the issue for the flights, the first of which are expected to start from Thursday.
PIA officials said that it is expected that a solution to the current ban will be found through diplomatic channels by tomorrow.

no....there won't be any IPO's.....IPO are allowed for only those companies which are good condition....

Well,cant count upon that too much,not many of the PSUs were doing good before privatization.They were barely making any profits.And half of the time they were fabricating data to show profits.I say privatize AI with 50% in the pocket of the President of India and then see the difference.

u are not understanding.....lets say if GOI goes out with an IPO, who will buy it??? will you buy it, no one in their proper minds will buy an IPO of a company like AI, moreover I don't think Indian law will allow it, AI is in such a bad condition that its IPO will be a very high risk investment....

Don't blame everything on Zardari, he is not such a genius to eat everything up without getting caught, and if you think others are with him, then blame them too, don't just single him out.

$600,000 is almost negligible when it comes to relations between nations. This is the kind of behavior that Pakistan should beware of. They won't give PIA airspace, forcing it to go for further loss. What do you think will happen when the time comes for Pakistan to pay for the oil and gas coming through the pipeline that is being talked about? Iran has been isolated, it will be difficult for Pakistan to pay, in case of delays, what do you think Iran is going to act like?

as much as i hate zardari- he just cannot be blamed for every thing- he inherited the sorry state of our national airline- even mushi couldn't do any thing about it-

the problem is not with routing, PIA doesn't have any money left......

Things are spilling over. There is so much circular debt that now it is extending outside of borders. If this continues Pakistan's international credit ratings will go down. PIA owes amount to PSO as well, just like almost every other department. It seems this circular debt will eventually eat many corporations in Pakistan. They should just bail them out in the larger interest of the country just like US did. Print money and bail them out.
