TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- A senior Iranian official has confirmed that his country and the U.S. exchanged messages over the fight against the militant Islamic State group.

Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian also was quoted Saturday by Iranian media as saying Iran warned Washington that Israel's security will be at risk should the U.S. and its allies seek to topple Syrian President Bashar Assad in the name of fighting the extremist group.

Iran has backed Assad during Syria's three-year civil war. The U.S. has called for Assad to resign and rules out cooperating with his government in the fight against the Islamic State group.

Abdollahian's comments were the first time a senior Iranian official confirmed that Iran and the U.S. had discussed fighting the Islamic State group.

Israel does actually seem to prefer Assad to a potential Muslim Brotherhood government, despite many who support Assad having claimed he is the victim of a Zionist plot. Assad has kept the truce over the Golan Heights and he didn't even act on the occasion when Israeli jets flew over his palace! Remember that Assad expelled Hamas from Damascus for supporting the rebels.

biased news,in the original news, he warned the turkey, U.S and Saudis for any military action against Syrian government, he reminded the defense agreement between Iran and added that we will defend our allies. and of course in case of war Israelis should say goodbye to safety.

Old alliances friend. Just like India cant ditch Iran on insistence of USA coz we were together since 7 decades as founders of Non Aligned Movement.

On the other side, India needs Israel for easy and comfortable access to hi tech Ammunitions. Even you understand our challenges are different.

Well its pretty clear who is next after Syria , Iran

Iranians have 3 choices

a) They could sit and play it does not concern us game and hope they will be considered
moderate society

b) They could actually enter war by entering into Iraq, which would be logical considering their
huge military on ground can just enter Iraq and take over

c) They could send help to Syria Military Force


Either way, at some point right after Syria is toppled , Iran would be next

Iranain Military could move in quite rapidly into Syria from North 8 Hours away ground forces
2 hours Helicopter fleet

The Russians if they decide to help , could land via Sea route into Iran and move in to Syria from Ground routes or they can come thru Georgia their preferred route

you mean when the Israeli military advisers were directly assisting the Iraqi army in the battlefields? and U.S were busy to equipe the Saddam with chemical weapons? in that case, we just used some middle men smugglers to buy weapons and used them against themselves in the same battlefield. reaction of their governments and regimes is the best proof for what has happened.

Middlemen smugglers? How did these middlemen smugglers pay approximately 500 million dollars worth of oil for weapons to Israel?
Yes, Israel and the US did support Iraq. But they also supported Iran.
