IPL shifts matches from Chennai to Delhi, allowing Sri Lankan players

The first Qualifier and Eliminator of the Indian Premier League was today shifted to Delhi from Chennai, putting an end to the uncertainty over the venue for the crucial matches.

The decision to shift the play-off matches to Feroz Shah Kotla was taken by the IPL authorities after the Tamil Nadu government stuck to its stand on not allowing the Sri Lankan players to play in the wake of the anti-Sinhalese sentiments in the state.

"The play-offs have been shifted to Delhi from Chennai," a top IPL official told PTI.

The first Qualifier was originally scheduled at the Chepauk on May 21 and the Eliminator on the following day. The matches will now be held on the same dates at Kotla.

According to IPL sources, Bangalore and Pune were also in the reckoning but the Governing Council opted for Delhi as the venue for the two matches.

Relief for Lankans: IPL 6 play-offs shifted from Chennai to Delhi : IPL 6, News - India Today

It is a terrible loss to the best and knowledgeable cricketing crowd in India; they are suffering at the hands of the foolish Tamil politicians. The play-off games could not be risked to any other south-Indian city for possibility of any disturbances. Let it be clear first that India is first and last, Period. Good for Delhi it not only gains the play offs but also the in hotel and tourist traffic. Commend IPL management in their bold decision. Shame on Karunanidhi and Jaylalitha.

This decision should have been taken at the begining of IPL itself,,
Good decision at the end.." der aaye durust aaye "
