Intel honours young scientists
ISLAMABAD (August 07 2008): Intel Pakistan Corporation on Wednesday conferred awards upon young Pakistani scientists who brought recognition to the country at various International Science and Engineering Competitions. Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education Jehangir Bashar, Additional Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education Shahid Ahmad and Country Manager Intel Pakistan Corporation, Azhar Zaidi were present on the occasion.
The ceremony was arranged in collaboration with the Ministry of Education in and awarded young Pakistanis who not only won at the National Science Olympiad (NSO) but also brought great laurels to Pakistan this year at various other international science and engineering competitions.
Zahra Suleman Tajani, Sara Moiz Ali and Arif Pyarali of Aga Khan Higher Secondary School Karachi were awarded Rs 1000 for receiving the first place award from the American Intellectual Property Law Association at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2008.
Raja Ahsan Mahmood of the Pak-Turk International School and College, Peshawar was acknowledged for winning bronze and silver medals on his "Ultimate Control System Project" at Science Olympiads held in Azerbaijan and Turkey respectively. Intel also awarded five other scientists who won at the International Women Invention Exposition 2008 at Korea.
Addressing the ceremony, Jehangir Bashar said that it was good to see Pakistani students winning international recognition through this private-public partnership between Intel and the government of Pakistan. He said that this is a unique opportunity for Pakistani students to improve their research based scientific skills and ensured the Intel Science Olympiads of the government's full support.
Azhar Zaidi said that Intel aims to work with educators and principals to develop strong technology plans at their institutions with the goal of aiding student learning. He said that these awards aim to recognise teachers and schools who have enhanced this by using technology effectively in promoting inquiry based-learning.
