Few things are as magical as spotting a firefly on a warm summer's night.

But, unfortunately, due to pollution and destruction of their natural habitats, much of the global firefly population has been dwindling in recent years.

In an effort to preserve them and promote breeding, China's East Lake Peony Garden in Wuhan city, has opened the first-ever firefly-themed park in the central Hubei province.

In Wuhan city, the first-ever firefly-themed park has opened as part of East Lake Peony Garden

Yes, this theme park in China is completely dedicated to the illuminating insects.

In fact, the park is home to about 10,000 of them, divided across five separate zones.

There is the flying zone, the observation zone, a zero-distance contact zone, breeding zone and a science popularisation area.

In this instance, the fireflies are brought in from Ningdu County in Ganzhou of Jiangxi Province.

Home to 10,000 of the twinkling insects, the park is located in the country's central Hubei province

The park first opened on May 30, and though fireflies are seasonal, they plan to re-open next summer

The insects are divided among five separate zones in the park, each meant to cater to a different type of visitor

The park is also promoting breeding of the flies, which have seen numbers dwindle in recent years

As fireflies are seasonal, the park, which first opened on May 30, will close its doors in October.

However, given that in the first day alone, it attracted over 10,000 guests, the firefly park is scheduled to operate again next year.

And if this year's slate of activities is any indication, there will be plenty of family-friendly events and camping festivals to enjoy.

Though fireflies are commonly spotted in China, these particular ones were brought in from Ganzhou

There are plenty of family-friendly activities at the park too - including walks and overnight camping

Thanks for sharing the news!
When I go back to Wuhan, I will definitely visit this park.
I do know there is a natural reserve about these creatures in rural Hubei Province.
And there is a famous scientist in a university in Wuhan specialised on fireworms.
We can register and be guided to hike and camp in the reserve.

amazing...beautiful
more efforts are needed to preserve habitats than the insects...
we want to see them all over the places
