Inside APS : The untold story of SSG Operation at APS

I agree.... i often compare in my imagination what it would be like to kill a rabid dog running after my family and emptying an entire 9 MM clip into the chest of an APS attacker and i imagination that i will feel bad about shooting the dog but will feel extreme satisfaction in seeing the scumbag gasp for the few last breaths. Mind you i am an extremely anti violence person, i can't even kill a lizard without feeling remorse.

Truth be told, I feel that 'killing' them with a bullet would be like letting them off the hook!

I would make every attempt to incapacitate them, and then torture the captured ones with extreme prejudice and care so as to push them to death every day only to snatch their breath back so that I could start all over again! And I would put all that on display, for others to beware!

When they say 1.5 hours to get ready for a mission it does not mean it takes them an hour and a half to put on their knickers and oil their guns. Once an assignment is handed there is studying blue prints of the location. Breach and Block locations are arranged. Plans are continuously changing as the situation is most fluid in the first hour, new information keeps pouring in by the minute. A plan is then decided and put into effect also considering any changes that could take place once deployed in the field. Again, this is not a defensive outfit that just needs to find walls and cover. It needs proper going in and coming out map before dropping into the fray.

I am posting just to bring this thread to the top of the first page, reading it still brought tears to my eyes.

. . . What was the QRF doing? . . .
As per this video, @6:12+ QRF response mitigated the toll:

@18:00+ it says 4 perps were hanged. They must have been hanged in public, in some chowk, and left there until they were bones.

@18:59+ Attackers diverted attention of sec forces by conducting a small incidence elsewhere (on front side of school probably) so they could climb the back wall using a ladder. Note that PNS Mehran (in 2011) was also entered by the back/side wall. Same modus operandi in 2009 attack on Lahore police academy; climbed the perimeter wall.

From 2009 to 2014 (and probably to date) no lessons were learned from the methods used by perps, and we kept getting stung from same hole repeatedly. I saw a video released by ~BLA which showed clips of about a dozen trucks of Pak Army blown up over time, all by exact same method, explosive under the parnala (culverts).
Unfortunately, our forum members & some MODs here (who sort of represent mentality of our military planners too) are too braggy about how our "boys" took head shots and didn't even spare the magazines of the attackers. (As if they know the "boys" deliberately took head shots and hit the magazines, and it wasn't just coincidental that some of the bullets fired hit the faces and magazines, which may have been the only exposed parts as they hid in their hideouts).
Lets be content with that and never learn.

Hi,

Pak military deceived pakistani public that day.

The military school charged parents extra for providing security---but no security was provided. Possibly the school principal and his cohorts pocketed the money---.

Pak military also had very very bad planning to against these typed of attacks.

Good planning would have every mid sized city to have 10-30 specially trained soldier on standby for this reason depending on the size of the city---.

Pak military has not executed anyone for negligence and incompetence

Stop it with your filthy nonsense you fool.

Knowing the principal personally and what a graceful lady she was, you ought to be ashamed of spouting this nonsense.

Had you been in front of me right now I would have sent a punch through your teeth.

Would love to have you banned right now, but then that would be abuse of power.

Hi,

Could it be that some military boys were involved in the attack on APS---. Could it be that the general commanding officer didn't give a rat's ar-se about those children being assasinated and the Pak military heirarchy hid that criminal act---.

I mean to say---Pakistanis are habitual of hiding the most heinous criminal acts just to save embarrassment---just to save face.

The video does say that perps had very detailed maps of facility, and that they must have done recce for 6 months or so.
But if they did recce they must have been outside the facility only. How could they lay their hands on the inside maps (if we assume that they had the interior maps).
Only some insider or someone who scoped the interior could provide detailed maps of inside.

And this is nothing unheard of either (involvement of insiders).

We know many ex-soldiers who went rogue. Even Navy's high level official plotted to highjack a ship and fire upon US ships from there. He was arrested when trying to flee to Iran.
So such insiders are possible.

I myself have seen ads from security guard providing agency that openly asked for ex (& probably serving too if I remember the ad correctly) military men to apply for job with them.

And we know one such security agency was being run by foreign agent who had faked a conversion to Islam and had been married to a Pakistani lady for some 7 years. What did our military do? Just arrested him and deported him back to his home sweet home within a day or two.

So yeah, I wouldn't be surprised.

As to the further points in your post, note that in same video, they talk about the count being possibly much more than the one reported. Also @4:45+ they talk about how a DIG with some 40 commandos wanted to enter to tackle the perps, but were delayed by another soldier saying that "Opar se order nahi hay". Not to say that he was involved with perps, but that his actions may have caused a deadly delay.

As to the hiding of embarrassment: after a previous attack on soldiers (and I include FC as soldiers, for those who nit pick FC being theoretically under civilian govt) ISPR released statement that soldiers died after putting up a fight. But then perps released complete footage of attack and there was NO fighting back what so ever. So perps proved ISPR wrong. And that's exactly why I shake my head when I see braggies here talking about "boys". "clear head shots", and "mag shots" etc. What if the perps of recent attacks released footage which showed our shaheed suffered similar injuries to the head and magazines?

This behaviour reminds me of the story in "Last Flag Flying" where military makes up story of bravery for a soldier who died buying coke.

So let me put it respectfully to those MODs & members, "showain aur barhkain marna band kero".

APS is located in Peshawar Cantt, in the heart of cantt area, everywhere military and Military police, even before the APS incident the security used to be tyt there, i have a question, why SSG? Why not Military and Military Police ? Why they didn't take action ?

.
There was a major of medical core inside the auditorium, who managed to escape and was later court martialled....
If he was unarmed, which most probably he was, what do you expect him to do. Be a bullet magnetic? As far as I know these medical core Dr aren’t given much military training.

Still should not have ran.

I couldn't care less about the other stuff you wrote, but when you will put out such nonsense claims about a respectable person who is no more in this world, then this is the response you will get.

That's exactly the problem with us and with civilian/military planners. We don't care about the stuff that needs consideration more.
Rather care about the non-essentials, distractions, and focus more on what should be low priority items. We want show-bazi, brownie points, and a d**k measuring competition, rather than real solution to the problem.

If someone wrote a disrespectful remarks, just delete or edit that post, instead of leaving the disrespect publicized for everyone to see and stooping low & becoming loud yourself.

(Based on background interviews with the commandos who conducted the APS operation and security officials)

It’s a bright, sunny, winter morning. The mist has cleared and everything is alive with the warmth of the sun after a long, freezing night. But a chill still lingers in the air. Something is amiss. The air is heavy with an eerie sense of foreboding.

At the Ghazi Base, the headquarters of the Pakistan Army’s elite Special Services Group, commandos are competing for the title of best marksman. A message is radioed for Zarrar Company, which specialises in anti-terrorist and heliborne operations. There is a situation in Peshawar. And they have to fly. At once. No time for procedures. No mission brief, no recon, nothing. Just pack up and fly.

Normally, the SSG needs at least one-and-a-half hour to prepare for a mission. But today, they are battle-ready within 20 minutes and board the helicopters. They are going for a mission that will turn out to be arguably the toughest of their lives. Never before in the history of the SSG has an assault team readied for a mission at such short notice.

The commandos still don’t know what awaits them in Peshawar as five Mi17 helicopters carrying them lift off. En route they are informed about the mission: terrorists have attacked the Army Public School. Nearly a thousand students are registered in the military-run institute and a massacre is feared. Nearly 40 minutes later, the Mi17s land at Peshawar’s Army Stadium and the commandos are driven straight to the scene of action.

Read rest of the story here Inside APS - For Peshawar
And today all of it has been forgotten. The same terrorists are rampaging across the tribal and settled districts being shielded by their ideological brethren across the border in Afghanistan. If one says a word about the policy of weakness, the MODs here would penalize them. A forum that should be an agent of change becomes an agent of maintaining the status quo. The majority of the Pakistanis do not even know what is happening as the media is not allowed to cover terrorist attacks anymore. Informed ones like us here are forced to censor themselves too.
