The ‘City of Destiny’ was not only destined to become the homeport for the first submarine base in the country, but it is also the first to house the base for the stealth nuclear submarines.

INS Varsha, coming up at Rambilli, 50 km from here, will be the homeport for the SSBN (sub surface ballistic nuclear) submarines that are being built indigenously.

The Navy has one nuclear attack submarine INS Chakra (SSN) under lease from Russia, and INS Arihant the first of the pack of SSBN (Arihant class) is already ready. The second SSBN INS Aridhaman is under construction.

According to sources in the ENC, the new base is being built to house at least 8 to 12 SSBNs and will also have INS Vikrant, the new aircraft career that is being built. This will propel ENC and Visakhapatnam to be one among the elite naval installations in the world. “Visakhapatnam is poised to become the Vladivostok (Russian hub for subs) of the eastern hemisphere,” said a senior submariner.

12 nuke subs means at least ssk alone or SSBN combined?

12 nuclear submarine means 6 SSBN and 6 SSN. So the timeline should be around somewhere 2030-2035.
So INS Vikrant will be commissioned under the Eastern Command.

Yes with Wiki on the other side .....
So this means we will keep Vishal as a reserve.:o::o:
INS Vishal should replace Vikrant or Vikramaditya in either eastern or western command, it wouldn't we very wise to keep our best ACC as a reserve.:big_boss:

There will be 1 Acc on refit most of the time and Vishal may replace the one on refit...... I dont think you can technically call it a reserve ACC...... By the way Vishaal is a dream for now....

5 to 6 carriers, at least 12 nuke subs, 4 LHD similar to mistral class, 20 to 25 destroyers, 20 to 25 frigates and 2 or 3 nuke cruizers.

Plus corvettes, support ships and a good naval base at Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Indian Navy will become 200 Ship Navy !

wait a minute. 12 nuke subs? o_O
Means there must be 50+ total submarine strength closer to today's US, Russia and China?

Project Varsha is one of the secret projects undertaken by Indian government to provide Indian Navy underground secret bases off the east coast of country in an order to protect nuclear powered submarines that would form one of the third nuclear deterrence platforms of India. INS Varsha is being built at Rambilli near Vishakapatnam.

INS Varsha would be accompanied by a weapon storage facility called ‘Missile Technical Positions near the underwater base.

INS Varsha would have undisclosed access tunnels at the mouth of the deep water base and highly protected shelters along with jetties that are meant for demagnetizing submarines and is a conspicuous addition to the base facilities. Some reports say that the jetties would provide more stealth to subs and will be difficult to detect. For security reasons, it is still highly classified how big the underground base would be but the base reportedly could dock some 8-12 nuclear powered submarines that are under construction and are being planned. Varsha would be capable of housing other vessels of the navy - destroyers, frigates and replenishment ships.

INS Varsha is supposed to have a dedicated ‘Wharf’ for demagnetizing submarines, the facility is meant to minimize the magnetic field of a submarine to make it harder to detect with magnetic sensors and to reduce the probability of triggering a magnetic sea-mine.

Both East and West flanks will be well protected and Mumbai decongested.

The west will be the sword arm and will have most of the offensive and modern surface and sub surface combatants for sea dominance...the eastern command will be more like the shield arm with limited surface capability and the A&N command will house most of the amphibious capability i presume.
