Indian Naval ship Tarangini in Red Sea of Gulf to enhance nation’s image - The Times of India


JEDDAH: The Indian naval ships play a prominent role in naval diplomacy to enhance bilateral relations, and almost every year Indian navy ships visit Gulf countries as part of goodwill visits.

The navy also functions as an extension of the nation's diplomatic corps, as it enjoys the freedom of movement over 60 per cent of the earth's surface which comprises of water, and can roam the world as long as it does not trespass into another nation's territorial waters.

The latest visit by the Indian naval ship Tarangini to Saudi Arabia sought to underscore India's peaceful presence and solidarity with friendly countries in the Gulf and to strengthen the existing bonds of relationship between Saudi Arabia and India.INS Tarangini visited Jeddah on the Red Sea cost on the second leg of its 8-month voyage, under the leadership of Capt. Gaurav Gautam, commanding officer of Tarangini.

The port call at Jeddah by frontline elements of the training squadron of the Indian Navy aimed to underline the historical maritime links of the region with India as well as send a message of India's continued commitment towards the stability and security of this vital region.

India's energy security for its uninterrupted economic growth and the well-being of millions of Indians who have made these ancient lands of the Gulf region their second home, is dependent on the region remaining stable and secure.

The ship departed from Kochi on March 27 and passed through Salalah in Oman before reaching the Jeddah Islamic port from where it left for Alexandria in Egypt, and then will pass through Malta, Spain, United Kingdom, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Netherland, France and Portugal.

The ship is carrying a 20-man Indian navy band which showcases Indian and contemporary music. The ship was open for a day to select visitors from the Indian community including Indian schoolchildren. A reception was hosted on board by the commander of the ship later in honour of the guests in which a selected group of Indian community members participated.
