NEW DELHI: INS 'Sardar Patel', India's latest Naval establishment is set to be commissioned at Porbandar, Gujarat by the Gujarat chief minister Anandiben Patel on May 9, 2015. Admiral RK Dhowan, Chief of the Naval Staff would also be present for the ceremony.

In view of the enhanced operational tempo along the coast of Gujarat there is a requirement of gradually enhancing the infrastructure for supporting the forward deployed Navy units and personnel. The commissioning of INS Sardar Patel at Porbandar would enable the Navy to augment its infrastructure and organisational effectiveness in Gujarat. It would improve coordination and synergy with other maritime agencies.

Distance between Porbandar and Karachi(PN's main base) is somewhat over 450 km.its ideal base for launching strike,and possibly thats why Missile Boats are there..PN is not going to forget about IN Missile Boats anytime soon.

by the way,all of these are Veer Class Corvettes,armed with 4XTermit/Moskit or 16XKH-35.

These ships are possibly just for inauguration.I doubt so many frontline ships(Stealth Frigates and Destroyers) will be there..My guess is,IN will place few OPVs and Missile boats there,along with Coast Guard OPVs and FACs.very good position to counter Pakistani smugglers.

according to the article,it'll improve logistic and synergy between Forward deployed ships in Arabian sea.

Its not IN Air Station.

Porbandar Airport is used by Navy and Coast guard for UAVs and helos.I don't think IN has any plan to place Fighters.All these areas under IAF's control,IAF has Bhuj,Jamnagar,Naliya and Makarpura Airbase,Mostly Mig-21s and Transport aircrafts and Helos.But runways are long enough for operating every kind of fighters I guess.
