From LG Energy Solution to CBL, Take a Peek at the Progress of Electric Battery Projects
Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) reported the progress of a number of electric battery development projects (EV batteries) under construction, one of which is integrated with LG Energy Solution and (T Ningbo Contemporary Brunp Lygend Co., Ltd., Ltd.).
President Director of IBC, Toto Nugroho, said that the completion of the mining transaction was realized with CBL and LG in the 4th quarter of 2022. Meanwhile, the production process is expected to be completed in the 3rd quarter of 2024.
"Lg Energy Solution's Titan project in the 2nd quarter of 2024 has started production. Their batteries were started by Hyundai with a production facility that has been built in Karawang," said Toto in a Hearing Meeting (RDP) with Commission VI of the House of Representatives, Monday (12/9).
Toto said that the facility in Karawang is the largest EV battery production facility in Asia. The nickel processing production facility and battery raw materials are targeted to be completed in the 2nd quarter of 2026.
For the Dragon CBL project, Toto expects nickel processing production facilities including Rotary Kiln Electric Furnace (RKEF) and HPAL to be completed in Q1 of 2025.
"Battery production, God willing, can be achieved in the 1st quarter of 2026. To accelerate the realization of the LGES Titan Project and the Dragon CBL Project, the two projects became National Strategic Projects (PSN)," he said.
Toto explained the benefits of developing the electric battery industry in the short term, namely 300 Indonesian workers participated in technical training in Korea who worked at the 10 GWH Cell Factory in Karawang.
He also mentioned the additional capital for PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTAM) from mining transactions, to invest in nickel processing (RKEF and HPAL) in electric vehicle batteries.
"In the long run, the creation of jobs with a total workforce of 125 thousand people per year. In addition, the need for EV battery products is met from within the country," added Toto.
