Indonesia will enforce 2022 ban on raw mineral ore exports: official

If you don't play by the rule, you will get Operation Ajax. The West are not nice people. Timor Leste isn't enough?
And your logic is that we have to bend over and take it like a good boy because the west is not a nice people?

Of course not, but I think Indonesia will concede over WTO ruling. I'll extremely surprise if Indonesia decides to fight it because most country will concede after WTO ruling.

Feasibility study completed, STAL Technology ready for commercial scale

Jakarta (ANTARA) -- PT Hydrotech Metal Indonesia (HMI) has successfully completed a feasibility study on the Step Temperature Acid Leach (STAL) hydrometallurgical technology, which was carried out together with the professional consultant from Japan. In the feasibility study report released recently, the STAL technology feasibility study stage was stated to have been carried out successfully. It can proceed to the next step of preparation for commercial scale.

STAL technology is hydrometallurgical nickel processing technology owned by HMI, capable of processing low-grade nickel that has been deposited so far, with environmentally friendly technology and low costs. Meanwhile, HMI is a subsidiary of PT Trinitan Metals and Minerals Tbk (TMM) established in 2020 and is part of the Trinitan Group.

Responding to the completion of the feasibility study for STAL technology, President Director of HMI, Widodo Sucipto expressed his gratitude and his thankful to all parties involved in the implementation of the feasibility study. According to Widodo, the completion of this feasibility study is also good news for Indonesia, since STAL technology is a national technological innovation and able to proceed to the next stage of preparation for a commercial scale.

Furthermore, Widodo said that Indonesia needs the presence of technological innovations such as STAL technology, which can process Indonesia's natural wealth, to produce products that have added value.

"In the future, HMI as a technology-driven company will continue to strive to conduct research and technology development, in order to provide added value to Indonesia's abundant natural wealth," Widodo said.

Indonesia Mulling Bauxite Export Ban Next Year
OCT. 25, 2021 BY STAFF

Last week the Indonesian government announced that it would “hit the breaks” on a wide range of commodities, including bauxite ore, over the next several years in a bid to attract overseas investment and boost available jobs.

Indonesian President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo told the international press on Tuesday that his government is studying ways to enhance its downstream production and transitioning away from exporting only raw materials.

The country already prohibits the export of nickel, tin, and copper. Jokowi said new policies on other raw materials could come as soon as next year. At present, Indonesia plans to end bauxite ore exports in 2023.

“Don’t be surprised. We had nickel (export ban) before. Next year, we may stop bauxite, the next year we may stop something else.”

“We really want to hit the brakes on exporting raw materials because there is no value addition and it does not create jobs,” continued Jokowi, noting that export regulations would affect “all commodities.”

Indonesia produced about 7.1 million metric tons in 2018, up from 2.9 million metric tons the year prior. The last time the country banned the export of bauxite ore in 2014, buyers simply bought more ore from neighboring Malaysia.

Bauxite was first discovered in the country in 1924, with first production commencing in the next decade. Indonesia is estimated to hold bauxite reserves totaling 1.2 billion metric tons, most of which exists in the form of laterite ores.

I don't have to agree with anything, including what Malaysia government did. When I agree, you don't hear from me much, so your perception is misleading.

Cause right now many are printing money to keep the economy afloat including Malaysia, I was saying exchange rupiah to other currencies(of course to those countries least effected by covid19). You could have easily profited. I think when i call this Indonesia had 50k-100k cases, today is 1.3 million. I'm more impress on how Jokowi managed dissent. Some are saying there will be a bad inflation after recovery because of the loose money policy right now.

Well this what happen in term of exchange rate and inflation after the year 2021 has been passed.

Indonesian Rupiah is still stable at 14.200-14.400 range per 1 USD since January 2021 until January 2022. The inflation rate is also stable, which is contrary to your opinion and prediction posted in March 2021. I have given the explanation in the same time of your post but now it is the prove of what I had said, although of course it all can happen with the help of God, ALLAH SWT.

Inflation is below 2 percent in 2021

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said on Monday that the government would ban bauxite exports starting this year to spur commodity downstreaming to industrialize the economy.

The export ban was initially slated to start in mid-2023, as detailed in Energy and Mineral Resources Ministerial Regulation No. 17/2020.

Bauxite is the main ingredient in the production of tin. Jokowi said the government would also ban exports of "raw copper" starting in 2023, which is in line with the energy ministry regulation.

Indonesia Won’t Budge on Ore Export Ban, Jokowi Says 'Let Them Sue'

BY :JAYANTY NADA SHOFA
MARCH 11, 2022

Jakarta. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said Thursday that the lawsuit launched by the European Union, or EU, would not stop Indonesia from banning ore exports.

The EU filed a complaint against Indonesia at the World Trade Organization (WTO) for the Southeast Asian country’s restriction on nickel ore export. Indonesia, however, remains unbothered by the EU’s disapproval and even plans to ban other ores aside from nickel.

“We got sued by the EU once we stopped nickel ore export. The [lawsuit] is still ongoing, but no problem. I have already instructed [my officials] that we will stop exporting bauxite this year. So we will get another lawsuit,” Jokowi said at the Open Session of the Academic Senate at Sebelas Maret University (UNS) in Surakarta, Central Java, on Friday.

“That is just one commodity. We still have copper, tin ores, plantation, and agricultural commodities. If we have the courage to stop [exporting them] one by one, we will be able to see those great numbers. It will create jobs, which is of paramount importance. The Finance Minister can collect the taxes,” the president added.

According to Jokowi, Indonesia told the G20 summit in Italy that it was indeed open if other countries wanted to set up the production right here in Indonesia.

“You can form a partnership with our state-owned or private enterprises. Or if you want to set up the industry by yourself, no worries, as long as it is in Indonesia,” Jokowi told the conference.

The raw ores that Indonesia exports can create an added value of 14-20-fold to the destination countries. The taxes and the job creation opportunities also go to these countries, according to Jokowi.

“And what do we get? They always try to scare us that they would file a WTO lawsuit. Just sue,” Jokowi said.
