NEW DELHI: The Indo-United States Combined Military Training Exercise will be held from September 9 to 23 at the Joint Base Lewis McChord in the US aimed at strengthening and broadening interoperability and cooperation between the two armies.

The exercise will bring together troops of an infantry sub unit and a formation headquarter of Indian army and similar participation from the US Army for the joint training.

This will be the eleventh exercise in 'Yudh Abhyas' series which started in 2004 under US Army Pacific partnership programme.

The exercise will strengthen and broaden interoperability and cooperation between both the Armies and complement a number of other exchanges between the two forces, an Army statement here said.

Over the years, the two countries have decided to progressively increase the scope and content of the combined training.

The exercise will provide an ideal platform for the personnel of the two countries to share their experiences on military operations in urban terrain under the UN mandate.

Commanders and Staff Officers of both sides will work in close coordination to receive and collate intelligence and to issue suitable operational orders to the combined field training components, who in turn will execute these orders on ground.

India-US joint defence exercise Yudh Abhyas, set to be held in the US from September 14-27, will focus on anti-terror operations and will also see discussion on strategic issues between experts on both sides, defence sources said on Tuesday.

The exercise comes shortly after India-US-Japan naval exercise Malabar, held in the Bay of Bengal in July, that left China jittery.

The theme of the exercise, 13th in the series, is “to build and develop positive military relation and interoperability to conduct counter-terrorism, counter-insurgency and regional security operations and Peace Keeping operations under the UN Charter”.

The exercise, set to be held at the Joint Base Lewis Mc-Chord in the US, will have troops from an infantry battalion from the Indian Army’s Central Command, and 5-20 Infantry Battalion based on Stryker of 1 Corps of US’ Pacific Command, participating.

Sources said the scope of the exercise will cover various bilateral issues, and it will include a Brigade Headquarter based Command Post Exercise, academic discussions on strategic issues, and combined training.

The sources however did not disclose the nature of strategic issues being discussed.

“This will be an excellent platform for troops to share operational experiences,” a source said.

Last year, the exercise was held in Chaubattia, Uttarakhand.

Ex Cope India 2018 to Commence on 03 Dec 2018

Ex Cope India-18 is the fourth edition in the series of Bilateral Joint exercise held between Indian Air Force and United States Air Force, which is conducted in India. This is the first time, the exercise is being planned at two Air Force bases, Kalaikunda and Panagarh from 03-14 Dec 18. United States Air Force is participating with 12 X F15 C/D and 03 X C-130. IAF is participating with the Su-30 MKI, Jaguar, Mirage 2000 , C-130J & AWACS aircraft.

The aim of exercise is to provide operational exposure and undertake mutual exchange of best practices towards enhancing operational capability.
