You should study Chinese strategy on Pakistan vis a vis India... What china has been doing is to give Pakistan certain technology and weapons which forces India to spend billions more to offset those tech..

China is surrounded by a long list off hostile Nations and what the US has to do it to support these nations with the right tech to draw the Chinese into an un-sustainable spending spare...

Just imagine just few batteries of Patriot MD in Ladakh or AP will force Chinese to go through a complete overhaul of their airforce infrastructure in the West or few batteries of land based AsM for Taiwan will make these upcoming type 75/76 ship much less relevant..
