I told at night, blow the Pak boat off, we don’t want to serve them biryani: Coast Guard DIG

Directly contradicting the government’s position, a Deputy Inspector General of the Coast Guard said Monday that it was the Coast Guard which blew up the Pakistani boat on the night of December 31, 2014. And that he was the one who ordered: “Blow the boat off…We don’t want to serve them biryani…”

This is the first time that the Coast Guard — in remarks that were recorded — has admitted that it destroyed the suspect boat which, the government claimed, had blown itself up under suspicious circumstances.

Statements and remarks by the MoD, Defence Minister and the Coast Guard had said the boat’s crew had set it on fire or were responsible for the explosion that destroyed the boat 365 miles off Porbandar after an hour-long chase by a Coast Guard ship on New Year’s Eve.

The Indian Express had reported that intelligence and naval sources had said that evidence suggested “use of disproportionate force” by the Coast Guard. The sources also said the videotape of the burning boat did not appear to show that explosives were on board.

The government’s version is now belied by remarks made by DIG B K Loshali — he is also Chief of Staff (North West Region), Coast Guard, Gandhinagar — at a gathering of officials from the Coast Guard and Larsen & Toubro during the launch of Coast Guard interceptor boat ICGS C-421, designed and built by L&T, Surat.

Loshali was speaking in the presence of Coast Guard DIG Sudhir Sahni, in-charge of refit and production; and G Sethy, Deputy Commandant, who are based in Surat. The interceptor boat was formally launched by Loshali’s wife Ira Loshali on the L&T premises at Hazira.

“Let me tell you,” he said, “I hope you remember 31st December night… we blew off that Pakistan… We have blown them off… I was there at Gandhinagar and I told at night, blow the boat off. We don’t want to serve them biryani…”

Loshali began his speech saying, “Mujhe speech di gayi thi lekin main mann se baat karoonga (I was given a (written) speech, but I shall speak my mind).”

So far the Ministry of Defence and Coast Guard have been saying that the purported Pakistani fishing boat due for an “illicit transaction at sea” and identified later as Qalandar, had blown itself up.

In its release on January 2, the Ministry of Defence said: “The Coast Guard ship warned the fishing boat to stop for further investigation of the crew and cargo; however, the boat increased speed and tried to escape away from the Indian side of maritime boundary. The hot pursuit continued for nearly one hour and the Coast Guard ship managed to stop the fishing boat after firing warning shots. Four persons were seen on the
boat who disregarded all warnings by the Coast Guard ship to stop and cooperate with investigation. Soon thereafter, the crew hid themselves in below deck compartment and set the boat on fire, which resulted in explosion and major fire on the boat.”

On January 3, Kuldip Singh Sheoran, Commander, Indian Coast Guard (North West), Gandhinagar, told The Indian Express: “After we had covered them from the air and the sea, the suspects blew up the boat… suddenly a ball of fire rose into the air and the boat was aflame.”

On January 5, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said: “A normal boat, even carrying some drugs, can throw away their drugs and surrender. No one is going to be killing himself unless you are motivated enough to do that… As per our information, the boat was under our surveillance for over 12 hours — probably for more than a day — stationed there in one position… (I am) not speculating that it had explosives, but it had some activity in mind that does not fit the description of a smuggling boat. Which smuggler would commit suicide?”

Interesting. But this news is not Bharati government endorsed, so it must be a conspiracy theory.

I hope its not. Good to know that Indian coast guard is using extreme caution and prejudice towards suspicious boats coming from Pakistan

Thats moronic. Fanboys on this forum aside, the militaries of both countries know very well who is an innocent and who is not and they act accordingly.

How come this DG who ordered blow up the boat knew in advance that the boat and it's occupants are no innocents? He is simply saying and agrees that he helped save his govt cost of feeding biryani by not arresting those people.

No one ordered that..He has flatly denied making that comment. He was not even handling that operation. But if a boat does not heed the warnings of a military vessel on sea, kind of difficult to accept them as innocents. Just like when your F 16s bomb places in FATA and KP, how do they know that there is no innocent in the buildings they are bombing.

Reacting to the development, the Coast Guard said that the force did not endorse the views of the correspondent.

It also released a rejoinder from DIG BK Loshali in which he completely denied making the statement.

He said: "I had made a statement that anti-national elements do not need to be served biryani and to be handled as per law of the land. As a matter of fact, the operation was not being handled by me and was spearheaded by the Commander Coast Guard Region (NW) and ops team being classified in nature, I was not privy to it completely. I reiterate that the boat set herself on fire and was not sunk by the Coast Guard."

You seriously are not trying to apply that comparison here?

The boat was finally surrounded why blow it when you could have arrested those people and proven if they are smugglers or terrorists. And please don't say it was the suspects who blew their own boat.

DIG Loshali never said Pakistani terror boat was blown up by us: Coast Guard

New Delhi: The Coast Guard on Wednesday rubbished a story published in a leading English daily which quoted a DIG as saying that the Coast Guard had destroyed the Pakistani terror boat that was intercepted on the night of December 31, 2014 off the Porbandar coast.

Coast Guard Deputy DG KR Nautiyal told the media the story was not factual.

Quoting a written rejoinder submitted by DIG BK Loshali, Nautiyal said the operation against the boat was not handled by the officer.

“We have received a rejoinder from DIG Loshali. This (report) is not factual. He does not subscribe to the text whatever has been reported. He has not made such a statement,” Nautiyal said, clarifying on behalf of the Coast Guard and the DIG.

What he (Loshali) said is that anti-national elements do not need to be served biryani,” he added.

The Coast Guard also released the rejoinder submitted by DIG Loshali. It says:

“Whatever has been reported... is not factual and I do not subscribe to the text. I have not made this statement. However, I had made the statement that anti-national elements do not need to be served biryani and to be handled as per the law. As a matter of fact, the operation was not being handled by me and was spearheaded by Commander, Coast Guard Region (NW) and ops team being classified in nature, I was not privy to it completely. I reiterate the boat set herself on fire and was not sunk by the Coast Guard” - BK Loshali, DIG, Chief of Staff, Coast Guard Region (NW)

The newspaper, in its report published this morning, had claimed that DIG Loshali had contradicted claims that suspected terrorists onboard the Pakistani terror boat had blown up the vessel.

The daily claimed DIG Loshali said at a function recently that it was in fact the Coast Guard which had blown up the Pakistani boat on the night of December 31, 2014.

As per the daily, Loshali had also disclosed that it was he who had ordered that the boat be blown up. “Blow the boat off…We don’t want to serve them biryani…”

The DIG's statement, as reported by the daily, had contradicted government's claim that the suspected terrorists had set the boat on fire and blew themselves up after being challenged by the Coast Guard.

Statements issued post the incident by the Defence Ministry, the Defence Minister and the Coast Guard had claimed that the boat was intercepted 365 miles off Porbandar coast following an hour-long chase by a Coast Guard ship on New Year’s Eve.

Photographs later released by the government showed the boat on fire.

As per the MoD, the vessel had set off from near Karachi on the eve of New Year and reportedly had four occupants.

Following the incident, there was speculation that the Pakistani boat was inside the Indian maritime boundary for 'drug trafficking or smuggling', but the government had debunked that theory

Stupid newspapers. They must be fined heavily for spreading lies.

why not. That's exactly how the suicide bombers operate. Didnt the suicide bomber who attacked Lahore Police lines yesterday blow himself up before the target because he was being checked.

Stick to the allegations man, how many suicide bombers were there in 26/11 attack? If these were suicide bombers then it had something to do with ISIS or other outfits like it why try to malign Pakistan for it?

Why ISIS? IN 2014, there have been on an average, 2 suicide attacks conducted by Pakistani terrorists every month. So thats the more recent tactic being employed by Pakistani terrorists than the ones employed during 26/11
