Prime Minister Manmohan Singh reportedly asked US secretary of state Hillary Clinton to convince Pakistan to withdraw its troops from the Line of Control as Indian forces were "far from the border and were no threat to Pakistan". A US diplomatic cable released by WikiLeaks on a meeting

between Singh and Clinton on November 24 last in Washington said Singh acknowledged that India's troop positions might have caused concern in the past, but the situation had changed vastly since the 1999 Kargil war.
The information, however, could not be confirmed as the government of India has the policy of not responding to WikiLeaks revelations.

Singh reportedly told the US secretary of state that he wanted the US to use its "enormous influence" to put pressure on Pakistan to take action against the Mumbai attackers, as India felt world pressure on Islamabad had started thinning out.

The prime minister told Clinton that known terrorists, such as Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed, were allowed to "roam freely" in Pakistan, while China was holding up the UN sanctions declaration regarding Saeed and Masood Azhar.

The cable said the prime minister was also keen on re-establishing back-channel communications if Pakistan gave up "using terror as an instrument of state policy".

Clinton, however, promoted US defence sales and sought India's support for an International Atomic Energy Agency board of governors resolution on Iran's nuclear programme. She also prodded Singh to remove India's caps on foreign direct investments.

I dont understand on the one hand indias position is that they dont want external interference regarding the kashmir. If this wikileaks expose is true then it woud suggest otherwise. I wish our leaders would talk straight and sort out all the issues between our countries asap without bringing in white anglo saxon english speakers into the fold

I think he wanted US to use its influence to bring the perpetrators of Mumbai attack to justice and not help in the settlement of Kashmir dispute.

And as far as asking Pakistan to remove its troops from LOC is concerned it must be in a reply to the typical Pakistani rhetoric presented to US administration about their inability to deploy more troops on Afghan border as they need to maintain a 1:3 troop ratio vis-a-vis India. We have never had any uneasiness because of your troop deployment across LOC.

Work on your comprehension skills.

India's position is clear.

No direct mediation from any third party.

Although, since the western powers still exercise significant influence on India and Pakistan, they can push both the countries to the dialogue table.

But that's where there influence over India ends.

They have brought India to the dialogue table.

Now India will decide what is to be done there.

...and you know, are Babus are just amazing when it comes to sitting on files and issues.

The first sentance is clear your leaders are asking america to use their influence and plead for us to withdraw from the border.

This has probably been taken out of context. The US has consistently asked the PA to increase troop strength on its Western borders with Afghanistan, but the PA is apprehensive of thinning out from the East because of the Indian 'threat'. Manmohan has apparently told Clinton that Pakistan has nothing to fear as India does not pose any threat to it. It should therefore thin out troops from its East to reinforce the formations near the AFPAK border to take on the Taliban.

Oh Please!!

Are you holding any upper ground....No
Are you holding any of our water sources...No (its actually vice versa)
Do you numerically outnumber us....No (Even at full strength IA still outnumber PA)

So keep your delusions to yourself. We only want PA to not go lax on your WOT for the greater good of the humanity. If you think otherwise pls do post more PA at LOC or IB and let their comrades be slaughtered by Taliban on your western border.

The title is bit funny...I'm wondering what happen if China that: PLA troops no theat to India, my PM told the world"..do we expect Indian to believe that?

Make hypocrisy statement will only invite more distrust between Pakistan and India.

Again wikileaks, well we should like to discuss over wiki reports after it will release reality over 9/11 & secret US activities in the world. Otherwise we are familiar with this entertainments called WIKILEAKS.
