Malaysian PM warns of invoking ISA against Indians

Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has warned the ethnic Indians that they could be held under the Internal Security Act if their actions threatened national interest and asked the police to monitor their movements.

Abdullah's warning came following allegations by authorities that the members of the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf), which is spearheading the anti-government agitation against the alleged marginalisation of ethnic Indians, are linked with "terrorists" groups including LTTE.

"My instructions to the police is that the group should be monitored. Internal Security Act is an option. I will decide when the time is right. If they are deemed (as a threat to national security) we will know what to do," the New Straits Times quoted Abdullah as saying. ISA allows for years of detention without trial.

Abdullah, who is also the Internal Security minister, said he was aware of Hindraf canvassing for support and help from terrorist groups and local gangsters.

Meanwhile, a senior leader in the prime minister's department has said the Malaysian Government had Sri Lanka's LTTE and India's RSS as the overseas groups linked to Hindraf.

Mohamed Nazri Aziz was quoted by the Star newspaper as saying that this was deduced from statements of Hindraf leaders, who went abroad to garner support, that they would meet LTTE leaders.

"As we know, the LTTE has been declared a terrorist group by the United Nations and the United States. If it is true that Hindraf leaders have links with them, Hindraf is also a terrorist group," he said. The paper did not make any further reference to Nazri's comments on RSS.

The country's police chief Musa Hassan was reported to have said on Friday that there were signs lately that Hindraf was trying to garner support from terrorist groups.

He said Hindraf had also set up a fund by misleading the public into believing that the money was to finance its activities. Opposition party DAP leader Karpal Singh felt that Hindraf leaders should be given the opportunity to explain the reasons behind the demonstration.

He added that the presence of thousands of Indians at the demonstration was cause for concern and reason enough to assume that the problems of the community ought to be addressed, the Star reported.

Meanwhile, the Sultan of Selangor said Hindraf's actions had incited hatred and damaged Malaysia's image by taking its campaign overseas.
Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah said he was unhappy at Hindraf supporters carrying banners and pictures of Queen Elizabeth II during the recent protests.

"Why were they displaying her pictures and asking her to intervene in Malaysia? They can always bring their case to the Government and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong," he told the Star newspaper.

The paper said the Sultan urged his subjects to be rational and moderate, saying that racial tolerance had always been a trademark of Malaysia.

Its funny when so called journalist change the title of their post to suit their opinion.

Hindraf files complaint against Malaysian PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Accusing Malaysian authorities of making "false and racially inciting statements", an ethnic Indian lawyer on Saturday filed a police complaint against the country's premier and other senior officials for claiming that his group had links with the LTTE and other terrorist outfits.

"I have never met anyone from LTTE in my life," P Uttayakumar, the founder member of Hindu Rights Action Front which spearheaded anti-government protests that alleged discrimination against ethnic-Indians, told reporters here after filing the report against premier Abdullah Badawi.

Asserting that the group had "zero links " with LTTE or any other terror group, the lawyer, who also named Attorney General Gani Patail, Inspector General of Police Musa Hassan as also local newspapers and TV and Law Minister Nazri in the complaint, alleged that the authorities were trying to put Hindraf leaders behind bars on "trumped up charges".

"We have got zero links with terrorism. We have got zero links with LTTE. We do not support violence. We are a non violent group," said Uthayakumar outside the police station as a few supporters gathered around him holding portraits of Mahatma Gandhi.

"They have accused us so that they can lay the foundation to arrest us under the Internal Security Act," he added. ISA allows detention without trial.

Abdullah has asked the police to closely monitor Hindraf leaders and followers who may have links with terrorist groups. "ISA will be an option which I will decide upon when the time is right," the premier was quoted by local media as saying.

Here i am just a member of the forum and im as much entitled to my views as the Indians here who despite on a Pakistani forum post misleading and self-made title of Posts.

So no cry over anything.

|Back to Topic.

The claim of P Uttayakumar that he had not met with LTTE ever does not mean the Hindraf would not have recieved funds from LTTE for creating mess in Malaysia.

Secondly he altogather avoideded to comment over RSS which is a fanatic Hindu organization rather even terrorist org.

thirdly if hindraf can file a complaint against the PM of a country where these indians are being allowed to stay its self shows the level of honesty and tolernce on part of Malaysia hence Hindraf calling the world and UK queen to interfere in Malaysian interanl affairs proves its only up to defame Malaysia.

I am commenting about only the title and I know you are a journalist, Now you are blaming all Indians.

The accused Indians seem to be taking Judicial way if they were terrorist then they would not have taken this path.

Now coming towards act of indians in Malaysia i am not calling them terrorist they are entitled to protest for their rights under Malaysian law.

Its the Malaysian Government who had found Hindraf having links with terrorist groups hence its PM had warned to revoke Internal Security against indians there.

BTW i was calling RSS and LTTE terrorists not all indians.
