GORAKHPUR: A large number of part-time teachers of Kastoorba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) held a demonstration here on Wednesday seeking hike in salary. Alleging discrimination by the government, the teachers threatened to adopt Islam if their demand was not met soon.

They said in 2014 the salary of permanent teachers and part-time Urdu teachers was hiked substantially, but the salary of Hindi and Sanskrit teachers was cut to Rs. 5,000 per month from Rs 7,200 per month.

"We have decided to demonstrate at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on September 14 and convert to Islam if our demands are not met till then," district president of KGBV Part-time Teachers Association of state Desh Deepak Dubey told TOI.

"The government is trying to divide the country on the basis of language. We teach Hindi, Sanskrit and other subjects and our salary was lowered. But the salary of Urdu teachers was increased. It is very difficult to manage our expenses when even onion is selling at Rs 70/Kg."

"Some 3,000 part-time teachers at 746 centers of KGBV all over the state have decided to embrace Islam if our demands are not met," Dubey added. Project director of UP Education for All Project Board Sheetal Verma was not available on her mobile phone.

It is interesting to find more and more news of protests, unrest and dis-satisfaction are coming. Looks like India is about to shine.

INR 5000 as salaries per month. This is ridiculous. If I was in charge of things in my country I would make teaching the highly paid profession. (Public servants only)

This is a strange fact that not just Muslims but even Hindus are finding they are being deprived of their rights. I am wondering who is the winner of Hindus and Muslims - both think they are on the losing side.

Why use religion to demand something? What difference would it make anyways?

If something is done with muslims, you start whining. If something is done with Hindus, you still start whining. What do you want sir? forever whining?:haha:

Looks like this is the case.. when I see no good news coming from India, I have less moods to choose from.

In Uttar Pradesh, Urdu teachers get paid well. Sanskrit teachers get paid like crap. These teachers should either relocate to some other state where Hindu teachers are not discriminated by the state or convert to Islam in name.

Note: Now that it's on the media, the sleeping cowardly Hindu brigade will help them with their ordeal.

Probably you should calm down and make up your mind are you anti hindu or pro muslim?

What about pro-justice? I don't hate no-one for their religion but I can hate their unjust and wrong acts.. so whoever is on the receiving end will have my sympathy.

Na. You hate Hinduism. And there is NOTHING WRONG in hating a religion, a faith or a Dharma. It's your choice. Stand up for the choices you make bravely. At least on an anonymous Internet forum.
