Indian Railways set for a giant technology leap! Engine-less trains till now have been limited to metro networks and suburban travel in India, but come June 2018, Indian Railways is all set to roll out its first self-propelled semi-high speed train set for inter-city travel! Codenamed Train 18 based on the year it is being manufactured in, this self-propelled train would be able to travel at speeds of 160 kmph and will eventually replace Shatabdi Express trains on the Indian Railways network. Swanky, world-class and state-of-the-art, Train 18 will offer a host of amenities that passengers will love. Financial Express Online takes you through some exclusive images of what the Train 18 will look like:

One big advantage of a train set as against a locomotive-hauled train is that there are no engine reversal requirements. Train sets also allow for quick acceleration and deceleration, hence reducing the travel duration. According to ICF, train sets allow for better onboard utilisation of space.

I hope they roll out Hyderabad<>Bangalore soon after the usual, Delhi<>Mumbai, and Mumbai<>Ahmedabad. How nice to sit in one of these and make it to Bangalore once a month and see the little fellow!

569 kms @ 160 km/hour. Sounds GOOD!

Tejas is still up and running. Don't go by overjealous news articles. Go look at your own railways first

Bombay Goa is a very lucrative route. It wouldn't be a big surprise if Bus lobby or some political workers are behind vandalism.

Are you kidding me, is this hoax or what ?

Take my money and give me a seat in this train.

Which route will it run first.

Surely I gonna to travel by this train... Even that wouldn't be my actual destiny.

I will go for fun.... I am very much hopeful for Indian railways.... But their primary focus should be on train safety

They will roll out this train somewhere around June and an even better train will be available in 2020.

Only a matter of time that this train will be filled with Pan stains and interiors destroyed.
