Indian Pilots harass girls at Mumbai cafe
Thursday, 05 June 2008 19:44 Pakistan Daily

A fun dinner with friends at a popular Andheri restaurant turned out to be a horrifying experience for three collegians.

On Tuesday evening, three trainee pilots and their 61-year-old flight instructor were arrested for allegedly molesting and threatening three college girls at Pop Tates on Andheri-Kurla Road. They have been remanded in judicial custody till June 18.

According to the police, Kedar Maniyar, 25, Snehal Bhatt 21, and Jay Mehta, 21, study at the Kingfisher Training Academy in Andheri (East) where Captain Vilas Prabhakar Naik is a flight instructor. However, the institute denied that the four are associated with it.

On Tuesday evening, the three men met Naik, a former Air India pilot, to collect notes from him at Pop Tates and allegedly had a quite a few drinks.

After a while, an inebriated Mehta allegedly asked the three girls seated on the next table to join them.

“When the girls refused, the four men got angry and abused the girls. They even told the girls that they ‘would not be able to get out of the restaurant alive if they did not join them’. Mehta then pushed the girls and even touched them inappropriately,” said Senior Police Inspector Jaywant Vatkar, of the Saki Naka police station.

One of the girls called her parents who reached the restaurant within minutes, but the men allegedly continued humiliating them.

“The girls are shaken by the episode and do not want to talk to the media,” said Vatkar. “We have four witnesses, including restaurant manager Santosh Shetty, who informed the police.”

The four men were arrested for outraging the modesty of a woman and criminal breach with Prohibition of Alcohol Act of breach of peace after consuming liquor.

I am sorry. I didn't know that such thing in India are of no significance these days. In Pakistan, if three young man from the military molest and sexually harass the young women then it is a big deal.

I feel sorry for the girls.

well guys, look at the bright side, at least these girls weren't raped or impregnated? fortunately for them, the police reached them.

although I am getting sick of this stuff, i hope pakistan can bring about harsh taliban-style "whipping to death" if this situation ever arises in our country.

Webby do read the report you have posted, the dudes were civil aviation trainees undergoing training in a private flight training school. Why pul millitary into this?

Such crimes are in abundance in both India and Pakistan; further, everybody in this forum does take them seriously.

However, posting such threads really leads to nothing but country bashing brawls.

I'm glad those criminals have been arrested and are in custody. Hope they recieve a proper welcome therein.

Anjali Gupta vs. Indian Air Force
Don't even think about claiming sexual harassment if you're a woman in the Indian Air Force. First, your charges will be dismissed. Then, you'll be put in jail, "for your own protection." And finally, you'll be court-martialled on trivial charges, and convicted by a jury that, to add insult to injury, includes two senior women officers (one of whom is Air Marshal Padmavati Bandyopadhyay, the highest-ranking female officer in the Indian military).

Here's the back-story from Mumbai's Mid-Day:

“She refused to play ball with senior officers who wanted her to ‘co-operate’ with them in various ways including participating in collecting bribes for recruitment of cooks and others. (Apparently the going rate for a cook in the force is Rs two lakh),” he reveals.

Jitender claims Gupta was forever being harassed for illegal favours. “The more she refused to join them at parties in the night, the more she was harassed.

In fact, Anjali had earlier complained to her seniors about the drunken behavior of Sq Ldr Choudhary who was even issued a Form10 by the IAF.

Every time she complained to higher authorities about malpractices in her department, she would be moved to another department. She was moved around 6-7 times in the last one year,” he states.(Mid-Day)

And here's today's news:

An Indian Air Force court martial has recommended that Flying Officer Anjali Gupta be cashiered from service. Gupta and her family contend that she is being framed because she brought charges of sexual harassment against superior officers and because she blew the whistle on corrupt deals.

In armed forces’ parlance, “cashiering” is a more severe punishment than “dismissal”. A cashiered officer is denied the privileges of rank and post-service benefits. The five-member jury’s proposal in the court martial headed by Group Captain Ganesh in Bangalore has to be confirmed by Air Chief Marshal S.P. Tyagi.

The court martial has found Gupta guilty of five of seven charges brought against her. She was charged on five counts of financial embezzlement (amounting to Rs 1,080), insubordination, indiscipline, irregularity and conduct unbecoming of an officer. (Calcutta Telegraph)

I see many good threads about the technological development and achievements of india in this section. But only the threads which have non-defence related stuff are discussed in length, eg- India Murder Capital, Women Molested etc etc. Reflects about the pessimestic nature of some members in this forum.

I bet these members are not from armed forces, and would never pass an SSB interview.

Lets stop the crap and discuss some defence related stuff....there is a separate thread called "Gup Shup maro"..to discuss all other bull crap.

Cheers
