In a bid to test the features of MiG-29K fighter jet, a Short Take Off and Arrestor Recovery operation was conducted at the Naval Air Station INS Hansa in Goa.

This was demonstrated to the Consultative Committee of Ministry of Defence (MoD). Members of the Consultative Committee of MoD were shown the latest facilities and infrastructure made for MiG-29K. A demonstration of a take off from the Shore Based Test Facility as also an Arrestor Recovery was shown to the MPs

also to place more order for mig 29 k planes

It looks like navy's way of convincing the MOD to order more sqds of Mig29K before the Russians shut the assembly line
As per reports, only 6 Mig29Ks are left for delivery to Indian Navy and another 16 are due for Russian Navy
This order will be fulfilled by 2017, and then the plant could be closed for want of orders

How do you think a naval aviator qualifies for live carrier ops? It is not like a driving test- once you have your licence you are done. Aviators have to qualify then requalify every few years and the SBRF will be part of that process. Additionally the IN will be using the SBTF to constantly train ground crew, certify aircraft and test new load outs, equipment, procedures and such. This is before we even mention the N-LCA and the work the ADA/national flight test centre will be doing at this facility.

The SBTF will be used year round (on an almost daily basis ) for a number of tasks.

Not 100% of the MiG-29K/KUB will be embarked on ACCs at any one time- not even close.
