Agni-V might have made world sit and notice rise of India in missiles development and technologies, but it has also highlighted India’s Self reliance in its Missile development know how of the technologies involved in its development.

Markoff a Western Defence Expert told idrw.org that pace of Indian Missile development is quite alarming; in just over two decades India has mastered almost all different types of missiles which world has produced over 50 years after World War II.

India currently is having most active missile development and their R&D is covering all aspect of missiles, from Missile defence system to Cruise missiles of sub and Supersonic class, along with Land and Submarine launched near Inter- continental missiles to strategic class of missiles.

India by forming joint ventures in some missile development with European and Russia has also made sure that due to lack of in house talent some other crucial projects are not in back burner.

Markoff did pointed out that India currently is serious lacking in development of aerial missiles in class of AAM (Air to Air Missiles) and ASM (Air to surface missiles) and with lack of proposed future development in this class of missiles will hurt future fighter aircrafts which India is keen to develop locally. (Referring to Tejas MK-2, AMCA)

Andrew Markoff is a visiting fellow at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies in at Columbia University, New York.

We have separate projects like Astra BVR, ADE's LGB kit and air launched cruise missiles like Brahmos air launched versions and Nibhay cruise missiles and Brahmos mk3 (cruie missile for Mig29).

Considering India will be using 5th gen aircrafts and UCAV in the next decades like FGFA, AMCA and AURA which will have internal weapon bay. Now either India aircraft designers first chose the missiles that will go on these aircrafts (except fgfa which will have all sets of missiles for it) and then design the internal weapon bay accordingly or start a separate weapon program just like in ATV project (separate SLBM program under K-series for our SSBNs )which will will include all types of air-air and a-g and anti-radiation, cruise and anti-ship missiles for AMCA and AURA. Best thing will be second part and we should also make sure about identical weapon bays in AMCA and AURA so that same weapons can go on both aircrafts and we won't have to make weapons separately for both aircrafts just like the Brahmos fiasco.

We're rich and have lot of talented ppl and with the money we got, we invest in R&D of missile technology.

India should also focus development of artillery along with these missiles.we seriously lack in ground based defence and offence.

guys we have a long way to go. agni 5 missile was built by 150 diff companies and 40 were located in hyderabad. why i am telling this because the technologies of missiles are now being spread over to private companies by drdo so they can do research for them. india is now almost self sufficient in today's missile development thanks to Mr. Saraswat. but missile development is an ongoing never ending process india will keep building missiles, improving them and researching new weapons.

So ??? Don't be alarmed. We are just catching up. We aren't producing and developing the things WORLD don't know

No india does not have enough money and neither we ave talented people (i mean the qualified workforce for defence tech is very less, i am not talking IT). As far as money is concerned, good thing for us is weapon development cost in India is less.

India has both money and talent pool for defence sector, its just the wired mechanism that looses great plans fopr great projects.

Report is right,we don't fail tests anymore i notice,DRDO has been bulldozing stuff in the missile arena for the last few years.

From slbm K-15 SAGARIKA,AAD-1 AND PAD-1 ABM shield,nag/helina,akash,Brahmos block -1.2,3.Agni-4,Agni-5.shourya hypersonic IRBM,Prahar tactical battlefield weapon and now nirbhay coming up,then brahmos-2 progress has been rapid.
Also astra,LRQM,Maitri are also in the pipeline.

Well this goes without saying, it is a case of not having to reinvent the wheel and learning from others successes. But there is nothing alarming about this at all India, unlike others, is open about its weapons programs- this is why we didn't see any objections from the West regarding Agni V.
