Indian marines should learn the Russian language, India’s Western Naval Fleet Commander Rear Admiral Soonil Bhokare said on Tuesday.

"When I was in Russia, we were taught the Russian language - how to speak and write," Bhokare said at the Indra Russian-Indian naval drills. "It is not a difficult language. I advise my colleagues to learn it," he added.

India’s National Defense Academy offers an opportunity to study Russian as one of foreign languages, he noted. The National Defense Academy trains officers for the Indian army, air and naval forces.

"Russian language is especially popular among Indian marines. Up to 20 people are learning it now," he explained adding that they are "inspired by Russian women and Olivier salad."

Eighth Russian-Indian naval drills Indra started on Monday, December 7, in the Bay of Bengal, off India’s state of Andhra Pradesh.

The six-day exercise consists of two stages - "Harbor", taking place from December 7 to 9, and "Sea", due from December 10 to 12. Launched in quite a modest format in 2003, these naval exercises have grown into full-scale maneuvers with bigger capacity, complexity of operations and the level of participation.

I think Russian language training is good option for officers. Helps in training.

During Trident, the officers were speaking in Russian. This confused the PN which was listening in. There are multiple reasons, why IN officers should learn Russian or Mandarin.

...and the other reason is that Sanskrit is just a derivative of Russian lang... :yahoo::welcome::partay::partay:

Its more likely that Russian is derived out of Sanskrit

Did you know that "Vodka" the ever popular Russia drink is from the Sanskrit word for Water "Udaka".

Russian words are more similar to pure Sanskrit words than even some Indian language words.

...hooh, go to Ukrain, buddy.. (muuuch more dumping in things of the kind)

Its more like these Indian soldiers are trying to learn Russian so they can better chat up all those beautiful Russian ladies. Can't blame them though, i will do the same:kiss3:
Plus i do know Ukrainian chicks are hot as well, just like Russians chicks,. After all, they are almost the same people.:):D

...well, okay, me kinda just joking, that "zee previous times" people were studying Russian to read Chekhov, Tolstoy and Pushnik in original, in 21st century they do for mentioned above sakes :D , heh, 'What a time that in manners!'

During the Second World War the Brahmins started learning German language thinking if Germans won the war, they can go and serve the Germans. Now after 75 years the history repeats itself when they start learning Russian.

you should be ashamed of yourself for making cheap jokes.

This word coming from a high level officer is insulting Russian women. I do not think Russian women are ready to hugh everyone who speaks Russian language.

I have read it many books and online. The Brahmins and Kayathas learned Persian to serve the Mughals, English to serve the British and were learning German during the WW II just in case Nazis won. Now the they want to learn Russian. Nonetheless it was forward thinking.

The Russian women prefer rich men and after they have bankrupted them they move on. While the Indians worship the white skin.
