news isn’t that great though. Before the paywall hits, the article talks about PSU/SOE’s continuing to decline. This growth is mostly attributed to private sector growth. Maybe that’s a good thing over the long run.

PSUs cannot compete with the private sectors anyway. Previous governments have subdued the participation private entities in the defense foray, that’s why we ended up with entities like OFB with quality control poorer than a roadside metalwork shop.

I don’t disagree. I would still like to see entities like HAL grow. I was just noticing the number of private sector component manufacturers (across industries) who are getting into defense or “focusing more” on defense this fiscal. Looks like a trend that’s keeping over last three years.

Many small and mid cap players interestingly. Very nice.

Future lies in DRDO assuming the role of DARPA as in US to develop critical technology, and then license it to private players to mass manufacture it. Same for HAL, government should have no business in running businesses, and defense equipment manufacturing is a big and lucrative business nonetheless.

For HAL to grow, govt holding has to fall below 50%.

for country in size of india its not that great

India had a policy of not exporting Arms till a few years back. It was a moral stand in an Immoral world.

We all have to start some where.
