The Indian coast guard has detained seven Sri Lankan fishing craft for straying into its territorial waters. The fishermen in these boats were taken into custody last night, said Sri Lanka Navy media spokesman Captain Athula Senarath.
This incident had occurred off the Chennai coast and the Sri Lankan fishermen and their craft are in the custody of the Indian coast guard, Captain Senarath said.
Similar incidents have been reported frequently with fisherfolk from both countries straying into the others territorial waters and being detained by the naval authorities.
