India and Boeing signed a deal for 15 CH-47F Chinook helicopters in September 2015.

On 25th March 2019 Indian will receive first delivery of 4 Chinook CH-47F helicopters from USA. This deal was part of Indian transition from Russian equipment to American equipment. India which previously used Mi-17 for similar role is now opting for CH-47F due to US sanctions on Russia weapons under CAATSA.

Afghanistan had Chinook crashes and as well as Mi-17 crashes so one cannot say this is better or that is not but yes Mi-17 had an operational edge over CH-47
