Sources inform "Globes" that Star Night Technologies Ltd. (TASE:STNT) subsidiary SDS has won a tender worth an estimated $30 million to supply night vision equipment to the Indian army.

The order will be supplied over a two-year period, and SDS is currently negotiating with authorities in India on a date for the start of deliveries. Star Night declined to comment on the report.

The contract is a significant one by any measure and, if signed, it will double SDS's activity. The company has not yet published its financial report for 2006 although it is expected to unveil pro-forma turnover of $12-15 million, similar to its yearly revenue from the contract with the Indian army.

It does matter. More equipment, bad bad for Pakistan. That means our military will spend more..

Dunno. I do know that Israel has already supplied a HUGE amount of these devices for the special forces. Infact the army is already using it on a regular basis in Kashmir. Its being used to man the fence as well as in all the counter terrorist ops.

Israel's night vision devices and hand held thermal imagers have proved to be one of the finest. Its literally been a BOON to the army going by what they have said about it. Its made their life hell of a lot easier.

Israel has also supplied the hand held thermal imagers, that along with the night vision devices. They have proved to be a gods gift to the army in all such areas, Kashmir, NE, so to speak. Since these devices are already there in a large amount, i would think that the army wants to equip them to the soldiers all over the country. Presently its already being used extensively in all problem stricken areas.

I doubt that its for the entire army. Thermal imagers have a specific role and not every unit is involved in this type of work. $30 million does not buy enough of the NGVs to equip a sizeable force. Probably for use with the SF units and CI outfits.

Also bear in mind that most of them have a very limited lifespan so there are probably replacements for worn out units.
