Indian Air Force Garud Commando Special Forces During A Drill in Ahmedabad - 2014
Indian Air Force’ Garud special commando units will be armed with mini-drones to neutralize enemy outposts and high-value targets.
The armed forces as of now have over 200 drones that include Heron and Searcher-II used for long-range surveillance.
“The new 65 UAVs bought for 27 crore INR (US $4 million) are portable and for short-range surveillance covert operations around vital airbases.. The Indian Navy is still waiting for for the approval of two mini-submarines or chariots at a total cost of 2017 crores (US $303 million),” Times of India news daily reported quoting defense ministry sources as saying Tuesday.
The new drones have a built in endurance of over 30 minutes and are equipped with infro-red payloads.
