A five-day joint exercise between Indian Air Force and Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) commenced on Monday at the IAF base in Jamnagar. This is the fourth bilateral air exercise between the two countries that has been named as “Ex Eastern Bridge-IV.” A contingent of RAFO arrived in Jamnagar on January 14 for this exercise, stated an official release on Monday.

Oman is one of few Gulf nations which has strategic defense relation with India...

. .
What is new here? Oman also houses indian listening posts at the mouth of striats of hormuz. This posts are specifically targeted at pakistan so nothing to be shocked even if they attack pakistan along with indians.

Our relations with gulf nations are bound to detiriorate in next few decades because of CPEC so we should expect anything because of changing strategic alliances.

"India opens its ears - European intelligence services are keenly speculating on the purpose of a listening post that has been active for at least two years on the outskirts of Ras al-Hadd, at the northeasternmost tip of Oman. Located on an isolated rocky plateau just 2 km from the sea, the site which is protected by police checkpoints in not among the listed US listening post in the country (see below), and it may be the first Indian listening post in the Persian Gulf. The facility is also located directly across the Arabian Sea from Pakistan.

To my humble opinion "NO"..The level of defense ties between India and Oman are visible same doesn't exist with UAE.
  • On 3 June 2016 Exercise Desert Eagle II between Indian Air Force (IAF) and United Arab Emirates Air Force (UAE AF) has been concluded.
  • It was the second in the series of bilateral exercises between Indian Air Force (IAF) and United Arab Emirates Air Force (UAE) AF.
  • This was a ten-day air combat exercise in which the IAF and the UAE Air Force undertook air exercises from Al-Dhafra Air Base, Abu Dhabi starting from 22 May 2016.
  • Exercise Desert Eagle-II saw the IAF Su 30 MKI participating along with Mirage 2000-9 and F-16 block 60 of the UAE Air Force.
  • The Indian Air Force had participated previously in Desert Eagle I in 2008.

Ahmedabad: Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa and Commander of Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) Matar Ali Matar Al-Obaidani on Wednesday reviewed the progress of the fourth joint exercise between the two countries.

The Indo-Oman air exercise is being held at Air Force Station at Jamnagar, around 300km from here.

The exercise, called "Eastern Brigade IV", started on Monday, and is the fourth in a series of air drills that started in 2009 between the two countries.

"Chief of Air Staff BS Dhanoa and Commander of RAFO Matar Ali Matar Al-Obaidani reviewed the progress of the exercise at Air Force Station, Jamnagar. During their review they interacted with the participating crew and held bilateral discussions," a defence press release said.

While the RAFO is participating with five F-16s belonging to its No. 18 Squadron, the IAF has deployed Su-30 MKIs, MiG-29s, Jaguars and MiG-27 aircraft for the exercise, it said.

"The RAFO is participating with five F-16 Block 50 Air Defence Fighters belonging to No. 18 Squadron. IAF is participating in the exercise with Su-30 MKI Air Dominance Fighters, MiG-29 Air Superiority Fighters, Jaguar Maritime Strike aircraft and MiG-27 aircraft."

This is the first time RAFO's F-16s are participating in an air exercise outside the Gulf region, it added.

The first joint exercise in the series was held in October 2009 wherein six IAF Jaguars had operated at RAFO Thumrait, Oman.

The exercises are meant not only to enrich the IAF and RAFO professionally but also culturally as Omani and Indians share a similar culture. The drill provides an opportunity for rich interaction between the personnel of both countries, the release said.
