India only abides by sanctions imposed by the United Nations and not those imposed by any other country, such as ones announced by the United States against Iran, India’s foreign minister said on Monday.

US President Donald Trump this month withdrew the United States from the Iran nuclear deal and ordered the reimposition of US sanctions against Iran that were suspended under the 2015 accord.

But Indian foreign minister Sushma Swaraj said New Delhi’s position was independent of any other country.

“India follows only UN sanctions, and not unilateral sanctions by any country,” she said at a news conference in response at a question on India’s response to the US decision.—Agencies

That's what I like about India's foreign policy (BJP Congress or whatever). All these leaders have mostly - if not always - have put India's interest ahead of everything. Kudos to Sushma ji.

Wrong. Modi is different.

Very Good India, lets see if USA has any response to it.

Sushma ji has zero weight. No one takes her seriously. Modi is the one who makes all the decisions. She is called twitter minister.

Wow. Kudos

nice to hear

LOL way to go India. Keep it up.

Don't raise your hopes as you would be fully disappointed. She carries no weight.

She said it during a press conference, so I think it should be official stance. Not a tweet.

No you misunderstood my statement. It is not about her tweeting or saying in a press conference. All the responsibility that she has been given with regards to external affairs ministry is to address visas and humanitarian issues dealing with overseas Indians. She have zero responsibility with regards to the foreign policy itself which is all managed directly by Modi & PMO. Even diplomats do not mince words on her responsibility, or lack thereof, on TV talk shows.
