Turkish authorities detain 9 Indians trying to cross over to Syria

The group had arrived in Istanbul on tourist visas on December 24, 2014 from Bangalore & were sent back to India on January 30, 2015, by the Turkish authorities.

BENGALURU: Turkish authorities had detained a total of nine individuals at the Turkish border while they were trying to cross over to Syria.
They included, 46-year-old Muhammed Abdul Ahad and his family consisting of his wife and 5 children, natives of Chennai, Javeed Baba (24years) native of Khammam district, Telangana, and Ibrahim Nowfal (24 years) native of Hassan.
The group had arrived in Istanbul on tourist visas on December 24, 2014 from Bangalore & were sent back to India on January 30, 2015, by the Turkish authorities. Ahad has a Masters in Computer Science from Kennedy-Western University, California, USA, and has worked in US for more than 10 years. Javeed & Nowfal are also engineers by qualification.
On their arrival at BIAL, they were questioned by Bengaluru city police along with central agencies regarding the circumstances of their visit to Turkey. Enquiry is going on into their background & motive behind travelling to Syria via Turkey.
