India to Western Tech Firms: To Sell It Here, Build It Here

If one production line is working, then power off, that's a disaster for all the goods on the line at than time will off market, delay is a nother unaccepted thing. In China, if transport to one place without highway at speed 120Km/hour, company will complain, time is the cost even more than the cost.
The supply time is calculated by hour and day, one of my friend at one Apparel OEM enterprises, they only supply hat to International Enterprise, such as Adidas, Nike, LA, NY Baseball cap and more ,the same workers, same raw material, even same style, only with different sale price and different trademark.

u can see the example of automobile industry in India, Pakistan n BD, India applied very high rates on imported vehicles whether new or used and coupled with a big domestic market it lead to the development of our Industry to world standards but the same is not true in case of Pak n BD...:agree:

such things r part n parcel of world trade nobody is saint here look at China it still undervalues yuan so did it stopped other countries from trading with China or did Japan abandoned US market after it increased taxes on Japanese automobiles...:azn:

As i already said Pakistani politicians aren't interested in developing pakistan first they cant cause they don't no how second the security situation they are refusing to fix isn't helping the others who want to.

Investment in India had lot more to do with USA china policy then Indian taxation but having said that Indian Government investment in education plus Dr Singh business friendly policies made a huge difference for India.I agree with you 100% about China Yuan policy.

USA n China r important countries but they aren't the sole investors in the Indian Market so Indian Policies do matter a lot, a simple example is that we have atleast 30-50 billion investment lined up in Indian iron n steel sector but is struck due to Indian Environmental concerns n non of it is coming from US or China...:)

besides the policy in the question related to electronics n Japanese n South Koreans companies will be more affected here than US n Chinese companies as they r very dominating in Indian Market:agree:

Transportation plays a crucial role thats true thats why NHAI is investing $70 billion for development 50,000 km of new national highways which will be completed in 7 phases by 2015.

Besides a lot of Investment is also being done in power sector to meet out the growing electricity demands...:D

This should be bigger news than it is. I imagine talks on this subject have been ongoing for a while but it is now we are really hearing about it?!! Of course the Western media are only interested in the Rape case wrt India right now. If this happens the effects will be colossal!

Exactly. Can Indian government implement this in one go? If this is gonna happen, this will affect the west and they will oppose such move. Any one remember a news of some huge investment in range of 15000crores or more in chip manufacturing promised by Antony. Has that taken off yet???

. . .
This is a great decision. China took similiar decision in 1990s and today we know where they stand. India should have taken this decision way back in early 2000s but our illiterate politicians prolly didn't even know the meaning of computer and internet or a mobile phone.

Now congress is trying to create an entire ecosystem and infrastructure for manufacturing. First they came up with the national manufacturing policy and then the National electronics manufacturing policy. This policies are being implemented in the DMIC project. A massive 30 year project to develop manufacturing cities all over btw Delhi and Mumbai. National Policy on Electronics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Hindu : Business / Industry : Manufacturing to contribute 25 % of GDP within a decade

And more info for DMIC.

India is now investing in long term stable economic development plan which will reveal massive results in the long run. We are atleast 20 yrs behind China in this field.

Finally... Good economic sense prevails... This one is much bigger than FDI in retail and yet in our Politics loving country, no one will notice... India is trying to stay focused on Manufacturing, and you know the end result???

GDP gets an additional support due to new economic activity, competence development and employment. Eventually, design works move here... Look at what GE and Siemens have done (Siemens just announced the move in November)... This is BIG, HUGE and AWESOME!!!

On another thought... This is like a sexy, Tendulkar inning... it gets better with more time at the crease!

.
There are many multiplier effects associated with this move- employment increases (10s of millions will be involved from laborures who build the factories and roads, to laborers directly involved, cleaners, caterers, electricians, drivers etc), infrastructure is created (high-speed internet, roads, motorways etc), the fiscal deficit is cut as imports are reduced when these products are made in India. Such benefits will benefit the nation but also most Indians with trickle down effects. Not to mention other industries will benefit such as the Indian heavy commercial vehicle sector which has slumped of late due to the wider downturn faced by India in Q2 and Q3 2012. Not to mention the inflows of cash (FDI) again improving the budgetary position of India.

This move alone could add 1-2% GDP growth within 2-3 years. MMS and his govt really seemed to have pulled out all the stops of late- 2012 seems to have woken them up from their slumber. The 2013 Budget should be a pro-reform budget and we should see some serious upturn in Indian economic growth within the next 18 months.

Hope the politicans don't eff this up!

tbf the FDI vote has restored faith in me wrt Indian politicans and implementing needede economic policies.
