India to send its largest military aircraft to evacuate more Indians from Wuhan & deliver consigment

If that was possible, it would be done by now. All C-17 are accounted for and in use. There is no spare capacity. India will have to look for alternatives.
The IAF had cleared a proposal in 2015 to buy three more heavy lifters at a cost of Rs 8,100 crore but the long running procurement process meant that its manufacturer, Boeing, ran out of aircraft to sell. The C-17 production line has been shut down and only one aircraft was left for offer to India. we had an option to buy and place more order but GOV as usual delayed and and boeing nad to shut down plant below is more info.

yep now we have to look for alternatives which is not that easy

Afaik, all the people evacuated have been found negative and dispatched. The only case of coronavirus death if a person from TN who came to India on his own without disclosing or seeking help. He probably was found positive and was afraid. Also the cases in Kerala, 1 recovered and rest are getting better progressively.

ADA should've continued to pursue the MTA through which we could eventually develop a heavy-lift aircraft

So they cannot open up the plant again for some more orders? Sorry for a lame question I don't know how things work.

The US has no more orders for C-17, yet its possible to open up. You have to pay extra for it and also put up a sizeable order. Not impossible but unlikely we will.

as the above post stated it will cost us twice the MRP and not viable , best option is to try and get 5 of these birds from USAF reserves they have some 18 birds mothballed we can get 5

ADA is the only org responsible for any and all aeronautical development in India. Again, it's not just PSU's or MoD but the forces should evince interest in indigenous products. IN is way better in that regard but as long as Govt doesn't take a stance against IA/IAF's top brass love for kickbacks and foreign maal, our indigenous industry could never take off

If you've noticed, recently reports surfaced that despite firms like Tata & Kalyani developing some of the world class artillery systems, MPV's, IFV's and such stuff...IA is still going for the Israeli Athos. Even for something as basic as small arms, recently SSS Defence exhibited rifles and snipers which are on par with western standards but still IA is going with the crappy AK-203. Infact, the AK which Kalashnikov concern exhibited at Defexpo-2020 which IA is going for isn't really a complete AK-203 but it's an AK-103 with some components of the 203...

How pathetic can it get!! I hope we impose a self arms-embargo on all weapons systems which we've developed and produced in-house or those where we've made significant progress
