India mulling sealing its border with Bangladesh to stop what they call 'a steady stream of miscreants and illegal migrants.'
The Home Minister of India Rajnath Singh on Saturday said they will seal borders with Bangladesh and Pakistan entirely by 2018.

“India is planning to seal the international boundaries with Pakistan and Bangladesh as soon as possible. This could be India’s major step against terrorism and the problem of refugees,” he said at a BSF programme in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

Rajnath has previously said New Delhi wants to completely seal the Pakistan border by 2018 by employing a mix of physical barriers and technological tools such as surveillance, reports the Hindustan Times.

The Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal also called for similar measures to be taken on the Bangladeshi border to curb what he calls a steady stream of “miscreants” and illegal migrants to India.

Singh also said: “The project will be periodically monitored by the Home Secretary at the central level, the BSF from the security forces’ perspective and the chief secretaries at the state-level,” to ensure the borders are entirely sealed.

Sure...will you pay for it? :D
Nope. But if you think a border wall is necessary then you should feel free to build it. Protecting your border is a responsibility of your govt. So they have to arrange the money themselves. We might wish you good luck on the wall as a gesture of friendship. Don't expect more.

Thanks, and good wishes are more than enough, but we are better off without a wall, a fence, especially an electric one is more than enough, cheap and difficult to scale . :)

This is one good thing I appreciate about India. It is much better to have a physical barrier then just dotted line on the map.Bangladesh will benefit in several ways by this fence.

1.This barrier will inhibit Indian border forces to attempt to capture land beyond the fence which we have seen in the past.So indirectly, India is strengthening our sovereignty and territorial integrity.

2.This barrier is also a good slap in the face of Akhand Bharat wet dreamer in India who wish someday India, Pakistan and Bangladesh will form one country just like pre-1947.This barrier will give physical touch to the partition of 1947.

3.Although India is projecting this fence as a shield against illegal Bangladeshi migrant but in a long run this fence will prove beneficial to us to prevent intrusion of illegal Indian from eastern Indian states which is lagging behind economically both western India and BD.Most of this eastern Indian will migrate to western part of their country for sure but some will try to infiltrate into Bangladesh by seeing rapid economic development.

4.This will reduce Indian illegal drugs, phensidyl,Sari and other goods from smuggling into BD.

India almost completes fencing its borders with Bangladesh

India has almost finished the work of sealing its borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh, according to a report by www.ibtimes.co.in.
It is also putting up some fences along its borders with Myanmar, in order to stem the flow of infiltrators and smuggled goods into the country.
It may be recalled here that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had said last year that India would seal its border with Pakistan by December 2018.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju, in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, said on Tuesday that most of the fencing works along India's borders with Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar have been completed.
He said: "The total sanctioned length of fence along the Indo-Bangladesh border is 3,326 km, out of which 2,731 km has been completed.
The total sanctioned length of fence along the Indo-Pakistan border (IPB) is 2,063.06 km, out of which 2,003.06 km has been completed.
Along the Indo-Myanmar border, a 10-km fencing has been sanctioned out of which fence work in approximately 4 km has been completed."
He added: "The government has adopted a multi-pronged approach for security arrangements at the IPB.
The arrangements include deployment of Border Security Force (BSF), construction of border fence, construction of border roads, installation of floodlights, construction of Border Out Posts (BOPs), introduction of Hi-Tech surveillance equipment, providing weapons and specialised vehicles to Security Forces, etc."

A report from the Bangladesh government to the Indian Union home ministry over the recent spike in infiltration of terrorists to India has rung alarm bells in the security establishment, reports Indian English-language daily newspaper Times of India on Tuesday.

According to the report, 2016 witnessed an over-three-fold increase over 2015 in infiltration by Harkat-ul-Jihadi al-Islami (HuJI) and Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) extremists into the border states of West Bengal, Assam and Tripura.

The development assumes significance as the NIA has found overseas terror links and the direct role of JMB in the October 2014 Burdwan blast at Khagragarh in which two suspected terrorists were killed.

The report said approximately 2,010 HuJI and JMB operatives had entered the three states. While nearly 720 men made a safe passage through the Bengal border, the remaining 1,290 are suspected to have entered through Assam and Tripura.

Bengal government officials are skeptical about the report, but even if just a close estimate, the number is disturbing as intelligence reports pegged the number of infiltrators in 2014 and 2015 at 800 and 659, respectively.

"We are trying to gather information to confirm the veracity of the report," a senior Bengal home department official said. However, Assam police is concerned about the development.

"There is certainly an increase in terrorist activity because over the last six months, we have arrested 54 JMB operatives," additional director-general of police (SB), Assam, Pallab Bhattcharyya, said. "We have formed a high-powered committee of top police officers and MLAs to check infiltration. They visit the border regularly and conduct meetings with security forces," he added.

There is also information that JMB secretary Iftadur Rehman entered India on January 12 this year on a fake passport and has established contact with linkmen in Assam and Bengal. He may also visit Delhi, intelligence sources said.

Iftadur`s real name is Sajjad Hussain. "Apart from that we also have information that on January 18, a meeting between linkmen from Assam, West Bengal and New Delhi and the top JMB and Hu-JI leadership took place in the Mymensingh district of Bangladesh," a source said.

According to senior cops, there has been a change in the operational mechanism of these militants post-Khagragarh and this was creating problems in tracking them. "Previously, there were certain porous districts like Malda, Murshidabad or Nadia through which they came. Now, they are coming through Assam and Tripura and then entering West Bengal. This is easier and safer for them," a senior Bengal police officer said. "Being a riverine border, it is difficult for security agencies to keep vigil," the officer added.
