Barring military areas which will be converted into normal military posts other areas would be handed to the municipal department. This was done to lessen the economic burden on the MOD which took care of upkeepment of such areas. Also this is an archaic British colonial era practice.

this is very bad

May not be a good move. The below para is the crux of the story.

Directorate General of Defence Estates, an arm of MoD that governs military real estate, owns about 17.99 lakh acres of land, of which 1.61 lakh acres of land is located within 62 notified cantonments across the country.

This is a real estate prize that the builder lobby has coveted for the longest time. Decades. Because it is prime land, earlier on the outskirts of cities or far away, but now right in middle of cities.

Hundreds of thousands of crores to be made by builders as this land gets privatised. Delhi can’t alone would probably be in that range.

The army has resisted pressure to give up its holding for years. Now it seems that time has come.

Probably you have mixed up contonments with garrison .Contonments have civil areas and military garrisons ..At present military is doing municipal administration work of containment areas are taken up by military and there is no civic bodies ..Now military wants to get out of these duties and give it to local Governments. It does not mean they are selling real estate or privatization

Not a good idea. Even in best democracies Army Bases are separate and secured areas from civilians. It's not Police

Not a good idea. They can always use tax system to get the maintenance money. Municipal will also do the same. Already , army is loosing land to encroachers .

This will free up more funds from defense budget for purchase of new equipments and modernization.
You misunderstood the purpose of the Modi govt.

This law actually imitates the Chinese govt's reform of the military region in 1998. The purpose of this law is not to save funds, but to limit and gradually reclaim the military's right to engage in commercial investment, ultimately reclaiming the military's financial power, making it unable to intervene in govt decision-making.

In 1998, the Chinese govt quickly controlled the military through this law, greatly enhancing its combat effectiveness and improving corruption in the military.

But the thing is, they are Indians. Corruption and incompetence is in their blood.

The corruption in India comes from the colonial system left behind by the British.

The original intention of the colonial system design was to bribe the elites of the colonized people to assist them in exploiting the colonies. The original intention of this system design is to encourage corruption.

No ethnic group retains the blood of corruption, corruption comes from the system.

Papajohn's army vs Pepsi's... maybe we will finally win at something, our army has a lot more experience!

Sons are of General Akhtar Abdul Rehman are running the business of Pepsi in Pakistan.

they'll be converted into Military stations, not military posts. Only civilian Residental areas and civilian markets will be given to municipal corporation. Most of the land will still be kept by army.

It was a much needed move. And a demand of the army itself.

your system is different from ours. Here military is a very important arm of policy making. This was a demand of the army since 2018 since they had to spend money on modernising civil areas under cantonment boards. They'll be converted into military stations with no civilian access
