India will commission the construction of six nuclear-powered attack submarines (SSNs), India's navy chief Adm. Robin Dhowan said.

NEW DELHI (Sputnik) — The boost to India's navy will renew the country's submarine fleet currently composed of 13 aging diesel-powered submarines and one Nerpa SSN, called Chakra locally, on lease from Russia.
"The six SSNs will be constructed under the Make in India program," Dhowan said, as quoted by The Times of India on Thursday.

Technical parameters are being drawn up, and a shipyard for the construction is yet to be selected, according to the newspaper. Another three Scorpene-class submarines will be ordered from the French DCNS company.

India's own nuclear-powered ballistic missile INS Arihant submarine is due to be commissioned next year at the Navy Shipbuilding Centre in Visakhapatnam.

Yeah I remember all those including indigenous SSK( which will be a reality too). Infact I never believed you back then about 6 SSNs as had never heard of it in any news or article but here we are...Its gonna be a reality soon..

I think India in past have allowed Israeli submarine to use Indian water for missile test, I might be wrong but any cooperation with Israel is always welcome

Israelies got the experience and the knowlege (ranked around 7 in largest arms exporter) and India got the economic power. JV on big projects like those, might wider the already large gap between India and Pakistan, and allow Israel better options for it's future weapons.
